I hope this is in the correct section..

But it has come to my attention, that the forums have been.. pretty DEAD. Before I left FTV, this place was bustling! And I return to find shriveled up old Anime viewers sitting all by their lonesome.. (no offense guys..
) But I think we need to do something to restore activity to the forums. I love FTV, but this dull environment is very frustrating..

I honestly dont have any ideas right now, but I think we should start making a list of any ideas we may have to help restore this.. shrine to all things Asia!

Think of it this way: if the place wasn't dead, you'd have already received a PM telling you that signature violates the General Rules of Sizing

Perhaps the best bet is to promote the forums and try and get new users. I can only speak personally, but it seems like a lot of the older members drift away because of personal life/new interests. Lots of people are still downloading from the site, so someone just needs to entice them to become regular members of the forum. Did the chat box idea ever get far? That might be a starting point to get people interested in on-site interactions. Or maybe just a giant banner advertising the forums as a "place holder" at some point in the near future.

Truth be told, imo, I think FTV had its golden era and that time has come and gone. People move on to other things after they were here for a while. I know I am not as active as I used to be. I still have many friends here, we still keep in touch and we do tend to lament the fact that FTV is not as lively as once it was. But that is the way of things...times change, people lose interest, real life takes first place. I still enjoy my anime despite not hanging on FTV like once I did.
Try the game thread, it looks pretty lively. Just continue as you see fit, to post your opinions in the anime section...there are other forums to visit as well. Just don't pin all your hopes here...had you been around two years ago, well, things would have been much livelier.
On a side note, I am planning a party for an old FTV friend, on TS...I will send you a pm with date and time. Now, that will be fun for sure.

What what what?! It does?! I edited it like 4 times!.. >.<... FML..

Yeah, I was here bout a year and a half ago, and this place was intense.. now im lucky to get a response to a topic within a weeks time.

My personal life also pulled me away from FTV, but Im back, and I believe we really can get this place back up and running. I know most people who download, dont take much interest in the forums.

What is the chat box?
And yeah, we need to get FTV's name, well more over the forums name, out and about! Maybe the FTV Team could partner with some other anime sites and thatd get more people atleast over to FTV, then we can start pushing forum interaction.

And ImTakes, I'll check my messages right now. Thanks for the invite.

Btw, Im not much of a gamer, so maybe the gaming thread wouldnt be such a good idea, although it might be good to try and find some friends who have created MMORPG's and get some sort of deal set up with them to attract more anime lovers.

If we are gonna be serious about this, I think we need to create a committee who's sole purpose is the expansion on the FTV site/forum. That seems to me liek the most organized way to do this.

lol, I'm still present, just usually too busy to check the forums too much. that, and most anime that are being released don't have me wanting to discuss them terribly. Nothing on the level of code geass or ef anyway.

Ok, another thing I've noticed by monitering the "Kouhais" or whatever we are, is that many of them like to read about everything thats been posted in a topic, but they rarely decide to make a post. We need to figure out a way to get them more involved, and Im telling you the committee thing is a good idea.

And mamori.. I didnt ignore you.

But, it's ok if the older users begin to phase themselves out, but if and only if we have new members to phase in. Ive been here since 2007, but to be honest, didnt start posting till sometime later in 2008, and then left, but now Im back and I really did love the FTV forums. The feisty debates and comfortable silences, the comfortable debates and feisty silences.. and.. you get the idea.. And I know its possible to get this place bustling again, we just have to take action!

It's time to get a little Pro-Active FTV Crew!!

As of right now, the FTV site has a few things unique things going for it.Now, not many know about these things or don't care. Not much else I can think of other than a chat box inside the main site. If there's one more thing I'd like inside the website, it'd be user anime related project uploading. Like if one wants to share an amv, it'd be nice for the FTV site to host it. problem with that is bandwidth...

Well those seem to be things that, obviously, not many people are paying attention to. Before we strike with the "unique" aspects here in FTV, we need to first find a way to get people to start doing some sort of posting on the forums.

Like, the thoughtful section, died, and Ive been trying to keep it alive with all my posts in the "Homosexuality" topic.. but the fish really ain't biting.

If we can get people to first become regulars to the forum, then we can start pushing some of the unique things FTV has to offer onto them. We wanna start small, and lead into something big rather than jumping into head first with everything we've got, otherwise we will fail.

Wha? You're not the only one trying to sew seeds of interest in the thoughtful section!
Ha ha. I think the reason the homosexuality thread isn't as popular as it was 2 years ago is that everyone posting completely agrees with one another, and everyone who isn't posting has already gone through it back when it was active. Back in the day we had Vith (...I think it was Vith...) to have some debate with. I think if it's the thoughtful section we want to save, we either need a topic where there can actually be some disagreement between people, or we just need people with generally bolder claims, or maybe even just some cool questions that no one has really thought of before. The forums need some drama, dang it! Otherwise, all it is us patting each other on the backs.

Maybe all the forum needs is something new to talk about, or something really really reeeaaaaally old. (that no one remembers anymore
)

you are reading my mind mamori!!

I think the problems are the animes. Why do people start posting in the forums? Usually it is becauce while downloading an episode, they notice there is a forum attached to it, they read an interesting post, they want to say something too. Thats the way it was with me anyway. The anime quality is declining though.... we had this issue in another thread. Maybe thats the biggest problem.

Somehow I dont see any sence in forcibly trying to make memembers to become more active. That is a thing, that either comes on its own, or does not. Currently it doesnt. I miss the old days as well, but I simply dont see, what could be done to reverse this.

Oh I am against the chat box in the fron page. I know it from other places and it attracts weirdos, who have nothing better to do, then to sit the entire day in front of the PC and write nonsence into the shout box, for whoever is interested in reading it. I am afraid this could in fact lower the interest in this site even further, because many people would get the wrong feeling, FTV is a meeting place for geeks.

EDIT: I was thinking about this and the reason why most people come to FTV is for direct downloading of the animes, right? Well, in the past 2 years or so alternatives appeared, such as crunchy roll and similar, so people have more to chose from and rely less on sites like FTV. It could well be, that this is one of the reasons behind the dead forums or FTV problem in general.

Maybe the forums need a nice update.
Just by visiting the front page of FTV it marks a lot of posts as read so I miss a lot of posts when I go to view new.
There isn't an option to view active topics, is there?

go to the forums, open up "My assistant" on the top of the page, and look at today's active posts... as for active posts for the last many days, I have no idea...

Firstly, I think this topic has become one of the most active topics for awhile so well done there lol

But I tihnk the reason why theres less activity is simply because forums have gone a bit out of fashion - everyone seems to be for super-insanly fast messaging, even email seems to be dropping except for notifications. Everyone wants instant messages, or updates on everything - like the twitter and facebook stuff. Personally I hate that stuff, I love forums. I've been a member of tons, for all sorts of things not just anime and this has the best feeling/friendly culture - I dont think theres any danger of it dieing.

I used to post a bit in the anime section, but the problem is sometimes theres just no replys to things, and i tihnk posts where people are just saying a few lines after just watching an episode seems to be discouraged, and its those kind of posts which happen because someone is really enthusiastic and interested, yes it may not be the best discussion, but its a feeling. When going to a thread and thinking "oh I have to write something long and interesting" it kinda puts them off.

The other problem as already said is real life, people simply have less free time, and actually last year around this time the forums were dead, I tihnk its partly seasonal.

On some of the suggestions, like the amvs - its not a bandwidth problem, there is a slight space problem at the moment but thats likly to be fixed shortly, the main problem with AMVs is the copyright, if its licensed then we're going to be a target for lawsuits - look what happened to Veoh and Youtube? If its unlicensed, then thats great and its doable, but the music is still a copyright issue - it might make ftv a more noticeable target. I actually put a section on my site to test out the AMV idea, and not even a single one was requested or submitted. I did have a vidiscript install setup which allows uploads of vids and is basically a youtube clone, but I didnt have enough time or volunteers to test it properly, and I dont have the time or ability to integerate it with a site - (mine or ftv). I'd be happy to set it up again and we can try it, but ultimatly it would be upto Daft, moving it from my site to ftv is easy as well as its in the same place.

How about setting up a Video on demand service or and FTV channel people can tune into? Like a live stream of anime shows. I have been playing around with a few programs which will do it. I seem to remeber FDC was saying sometihng about a streaming service trial as well.

On the magazine front, yes its delayed, but at the same time its suffered a lot from lack of interest - people just havent come forward, even after adverts in the mag and in the forums. Maybe people just dont feel like writing much anymore. Maybe we need something new to fire people up and get them excited enough to write - be it on the forum or on the blogs or the magazine.

I simply put it down to the anime industry being quite stale. IMO, anime isnt as original as it use to be. Its also become quite mainstream. These factors means you dont need a forum designed specifically for anime anymore.

I myself have been wondering maybe its time i stop watching anime simply because i dont get the same feeling i use to in my teens. I wouldnt be surprise if other people have the same thoughts. Therefore if your not watching anime, there is not much purpose coming FTV.

I think the anime golden age is well and truly gone. But it was a sweet ride.

maybe it will come into fashion again. Anime has been around for a while (couple of decades) and its not gonna disappear so quickly. But we do need more quality anime. Lately it is only about ecchi and harem.

It's not like we don't have the occasional gem still. Despite a lack of discussion on them here, Spice and wolf and Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei are excellent pieces of light novel/manga/anime. Not to mention Bakemonogatari, which despite production restrictions had an awesome story, style, and characters.

And just because doesn't make it bad off the bat. I personally enjoyed sekirei very much (and look forward to season 2 ^^). Granted, when we see the same general harem/ecchi scenario for the 10th time, it does start to lose some of the appeal. But that probably just lets you pic out those ones which have real merit behind that overused genre. I think a good example of that now is Nyankoi. At first glance it seemed just like another dating sim-esque anime, but I gave it a chance and to my surprise it is actually pretty funny XD.

Basically what I'm saying is that the quality hasn;t gone down any really, we're just becoming more refined in what we're willing to spend time on, which is a good thing. Now we just need to have a bit more discussion on those series which actually ARE good (or otherwise entertaining).

Another thought about perhaps a lack of a activity is that perhaps those series that may generate more discussion aren't able to be hosted here (Hayate no Gotoku anyone?). Still have to go to ****** or ****** to download/torrent them, so I'm likely not thinking of them when I come to fansub.tv to check out what's up.

* ooh, and Kimi ni Todoke! makes me happy ^^

I know it sounds like Im simply repeating myself over and over and over again.. but once again.. we need to find a way to get people more active on the forums.. someone said something about not forcing people, well it's not forcing anyone to do anything. It's more like, inspiring them or encouraging their passion to write or post.

Now, someone, not exaclty sure who, sorry, was opposed to the chat box idea. And he/she actually made a very good point. On alot of anime streaming websites, they have integrated chat boxes at the bottom of the page, and all that ends up happening is that a bunch of freaks get together a rant about completely ridiculous and pointless things.. not to mention the constant bombardment of pornographic content.. so maybe we really should avoid the chat box thing.

Now, no offense to anyone.. but it seems like all we're really doing is pointing fingers as to who or what's to blame for the lack of enthusiasm here, but no one, with the exception of the few ideas we got from Maiku_Ando, is trying to think of a solution. Im sure there are a million different reasons for why the forum is dead, but we have to spend our energy thinking of a way to revive this place. Some people keep saying that this revival most likely wont happen, well how are we gonna know unless we try and completely give it our all? It's for sure not going to be easy, but ultimately will pay off!

So once again, "C'mon FTV Team! Time to get a little Pro-Active!" and no.. i don't mean go and pop a few zits.. I mean let's get the ball rolling, let's get FTV's name out there and revive the place that has boughten joy and hope to countless of Anime/manga junkies! (hehe)
