I agree. The series is getting better and better. I too could see myself in the knowledge-obsessed character in the episode 3.
Anyway, what spirit do we have here this time?

Okurimono (送り物)
Looks like it's a type of spirit which follows somebody.
The only okurimono I know about is the okuri-inu(送り犬).
It's a spirit dog (or a kind of japanese wolf) which follows the possesed person either to attack him if he falls, or to protect him from stray dogs.
There are also machi-inu or mukae-inu which walk before the possessed person.

A little cultural sidenote: there is an expression "okuri-ookami"(送り狼) in today's Japan which means a man who escorts a woman home to make a pass on her.

Just got around to watching the 4th episode. It's true, I think running can be assimilated with having the high or drunken feeling of happiness. Though what I've realized in this series is that they focus more on the younger sister Mizuki than they do the older sister. I hope they'll start bringing some insight on her as well, because I feel at times she acts like more of a side character than a main one.

You're right. It's 3 Mizuki-centered episodes of the total four. But I guess given the fact that Mizuki is the more easily possesed and the younger one, Shizuru is more like a support for here. From what I've seen so far, there are two types of plot: Mizuki gets possesed (Mizuki-centered), or some other person gets possessed (time for Shizuru, because she can see the things). Let's see how the series will progress.

I guess the ghost in the last episode was completely made up by the creators, but the tales they were talking about really are a part of japanese (or chinese) folklore. Not sure about the Butei/Touhousaku thing. The only fact I managed to find is that Touhousaku was some chinese wise man living around 100BC, said to be a mountain hermit/wizard.

Anyway it was another heartwarming episode about things of everyday life with addition of a colorful ghost as a spice.

I agree.....while it is fun to watch the little one get possesed, I like the older sister's abilities and wisdom more....perhaps, because she's older and the series becomes more serious when she's headlining so to speak. It seems we will get a little of both and I always enjoy Gramps wisdom, though sometimes, he can be a little harsh. This last episode was so-so for me.....still, one of my faves so far this anime season!

Hmm, sometimes I agree Gramps can be harsh. He's so mean and I'm like, poor kids. But I guess he has to act that way since those two have to learn to deal with things on their own. I guess he realizes that if his granddaughters rely on him too much, they'll be in trouble when he passes away. They have to learn to deal with things on their own. But still, knowing that....he's mean

Okay, I have been watching this one.....a bit slow at times but still entertaining. Last episode did not make too much sense.....something about a ball of white fur being raised and brings the one who raises it, good luck. This new episode, number 7, is a bit more interesting...a Jatai has possessed Mizuki-chan and she has two red bruises around her neck and one on her arm. Seems innate objects can take on a serpentine form and the owner of said object projects his/her feelings into it.....seems Hisako-chan's jealousy, turned her scarf into a snake like creature that was choking poor Mizuki-chan.

Funny...it seems this one lost some steam as no one else posts here....ah, off topic.

Anyway, just watched episode 8 and it was very interesting as little Mizuki-chan went on a field trip up Mt. Fuji way, and met a very interesting "Old Woman who happened to be the Yamauba of ancient Japanese folklore." Lucky for Mizuki-chan, Gramps prepared a little something for her to drink that would warn her of danger....it sure did.

Wow, this is truly one of the best series out there. The lack of posts amazes me

Oh well, perhaps if it had some more fan service or huge mecha... it's just two sisters and a whole lot of ghosts after all

QUOTE (natexmetal @ Jan 16 2008, 06:08 PM)Just wondering if it's really worth starting right now, as there are 11 epi. out.

Well?
Sure, the other episodes are still available. Don't expect hart-throbbing action though.. the series is quite easy-going. I think it's well worth watching, though. Nice, catchy OP as well.

its nice in a way... but i guess they shud give advice in starting ... as in minami ke where they say dont expect too much out of it. Its nice to see something as simple as family bounds apart from anime where lead characters tries to save world from some fictitious disaster... fighting with his own doubts.

this series definitely better ... its a worth watch ..

Well, it was interesting to see all the folklore that went into this one. They could have just called it 13 popular Japanese spiritual folklore tales and not had to involve the two girls but I guess the Kawaii!! factor was just to draw more audience. Last episode was sort of sad with oba-chan dieing , but overall I would say it was enjoyable.

Mokke is one of the most understated animes that deserve so much more attention than it is getting. Just finished the last episode, and for the first time in a couple of years I cried while watching an anime. The ending was just beautiful. Oba-chan passing was portrayed very peacefully and meaningfully, which means a lot to me as I am training to become a doctor... Quite sad, but very well done.

So many things about this series stands out. I like how they always contrast the experiences of other people with those of the two sisters within one episode. It is never just focused on one single character, but a pretty well rounded development through the whole 24 eps.

Wait that was it? thats the whole series? I really thought that they were building to something. The old lady passing was sad but if this is the final episode I would have to say it was an anticlimactic finale. I hope they plan on another season, there were way too many loose ends left in this story.
WAH

all of my favorite series are ending, I'm starting to get depressed.

Awww that was too sad, It was so sad when the Granny died. I cried. I really hope there is a season two, there were too many things unsolved. Like that spirit in the boat, or the little man on the shoulder of the boy that liked Shizuru. Or maybe who knows, perhaps it's meant to show that not every thing can be solved.

I think that is the whole point of the show, and the factor which makes it stand out. Instead of them meeting a phantom/spirit every week and then "solving" it through some sort of climatic battle, they learn to co-exist with these creatures. The grandpa's philosophy was always to not interfere with them and just make sure they don't bother you.

Oba-chan's passing was a story which brought out the strength and beauty of relationships within a family. In my humble opinion, this is a great ending. Slightly anticlimatic, but overall well done.

That said, I wouldn't mind a season two, if it's just to see more of Mizuki's antics. And also to see how life goes on after Oba-chan is gone, but that might be the reason they DON'T do a second season.

Great series altogher, the whole idea of the show captivated me from Episode #1. My only beef, unfortunatly was the ending. Such a fun, and happy show right up until the death. A second season would be interesting, maybe a bit shorter and following a more structured storyline, over a slice-of-life appeal. That is just my opinion though!
