QUOTE (dickban @ Dec 11 2008, 05:46 PM)And everything is bad if you abuse it, not only drugs
The difference between drugs and other activities is drugs are addictive (at a chemical level). So it's not easy for everyone to stop once they start. Indeed this is one of the major problems of alcohol and tobacco smoke, people don't know how to moderate their intake which leads to all sorts of problems. With illegal drugs the problems are only compounded as the user must seek the drugs through illegal sources. As a result, the quality of the drug is lower (no health and safety) and the price for a drug will be higher (this is particularly true for the hardest drugs). So it's not quite the same as having too many burgers...

Another point to remember is the effects of illicit drugs is not completely understood (people don't research it as much as it's illegal). So we can't be completely sure how safe a drug is. As for cannabis it's a tricky one. If the cannabis taken is weak then I would say it is a relatively safe drug to use (at least if you compare it to cigarettes). Problem is, people often smoke cannabis with tobacco using unfiltered roll-ups so it's not that safe. What's more in recent years cannabis has got stronger. This means the risks of mental problems such as Schizophrenia are much higher. It's one of the reasons why the UK reclassified cannabis to a Class B drug (it used to be Class C). With a class C drug you only get a slap in the wrist if caught in possession of the drug (dealing is different).

Only a few of the mainstream drugs are. In most cases it is not the substance you get addictetd to, but the feelings and effects they provide. Amfetamine really makes your mood and social life alot better, that is what you get addicted to, and not the pile of powder itself.

And it is true that the qualit of some street drugs really suck, if you find something with 40% purity, you can consider yourself lucky

first time poster after i saw this thread i thought about making an account, i got very interested in peoples opinions on this subject,. i smoke weed everyday probly around 2 sticks (2.4grams), and drink alcohol while doing it usually a bottle of wine or whatever i can get my hands on(aussie beer > *), and do ecstacy occasionally (every 3-4 months), for people who dont do drugs i would probly seem pretty fucked up but i get out of bed at 9 am everyday and start drinking and smoking weed (no ciggarettes i quit them cause they really are stupid, being addicted to something which does nothing) from being drunk/high the night before and most days i can get out of bed pretty easily, the drinking if anything makes it harder i dont get hangovers though only occaisonally, the weed doesnt do much to me hence why i drink while smoking it, it depends on person to person what addiction is to them and how their body takes it, some people get really effected and some dont, it still is damaging your physical health no matter what your reason for doing it is, everything in moderation works for me, i stopped weed and alcohol for 1 month and i could remember more than what happened yesterday (for sober people that does sound very bad) but i got back into it not because of addiction but because of other bigger problems which alot of people use/abuse drugs for the same reason, im only 18, living in Australia sorry if my post is long please dont take it the wrong way lol can i get any thoughts on my way of living

i used to be a heavy Christian before i got into drugs, and i dont do drugs to be "cool" i dont see why any person on this planet should, and people who do drugs to be "cool" are seriously lame, i do it at a mates place and if anything when i meet new people i say im clean and i dont do drugs cause i dont want people to know. i live on 1 meal per day, writing this is making me actually realise my problems..

Don't remember if I've commented on this thread before so apologies if I have but back on topic I would have to say the only drug I've ever used and/or developed an addiction for is caffeine so compared to everybody else here I'm probably not what most people would consider a drug user (although ironically when caffeine was first introduced it was used in the same way that modern drugs are today, people would literally inject it or later on drink their coffee so strong it was close to being pure caffeine).
Anyway I'm going to apologise again because I don't mean to come across os preaching or patronising but I'm aware that the way i speak/write can come across that way. I don't have any right to prevent any of you from using drugs, it's your life and your own body but nobody here would like to find out that any of you have died due to drug related issues so take care guys
smile.gif

I'd also like to mention my experience with coming across drug abuse whilst working at a hospital because the evnts left a pretty profound effect on me.
One incident which in some ways was ironic gave me a very negative opinion of people who abuse drugs and/or their bodies. I ecnountered a young man on a surgical ward once who had just been admitted prior to having surgery but was unable to have his surgery for a very simple reason. He had been a frequent IV drug user and so none of the nurses or doctors could find a usable vein for an IV drip on either arm and even the anaethesiologist (who through his job would be the best person in the hospital to find a usable vein) was able to find a suitable vein.
dry.gif

A more dramatic incident occured with a young man who was admitted onto the ward follwing alcohol abuse. Prompted me to never drink in excess ever again as during the day he went into severe withdrawal symptoms rsulting in a fit and when he woke up from the fit he couldn't remember where he was or why he was there and became so frightened because of it that he panicked and had to be kept under guard to prevent him from harming himself until he calmed down.
ph34r.gif

Guess what I'm trying to say is I don't want any of you to go through anything like that

Sigh, I opened this thread once more so I could copy and paste my other post. And something cought my eye on the first page, and on this page.

marijuana is NOT addictive.

Lets define Addiction:

In medical terminology, an addiction is a state in which the body depends on a substance for normal functioning and may occur along with physical dependence, as in drug addiction. When the drug or substance on which someone is dependent is suddenly removed, it will cause withdrawal, a characteristic set of signs and symptoms. Addiction is generally associated with increased drug tolerance. In physiological terms, addiction is not necessarily associated with substance abuse since this form of addiction can result from using medication as prescribed by a doctor. Physical dependence is different from psychological dependence (addiction). The latter is often characterized by a compulsive need for a drug for psychological reasons, while the former is characterized by need for the drug due to tolerance and the need to prevent withdrawal symptoms on discontinuing the use of a drug. Physical dependence however, commonly occurs with both addiction and therapeutic use of drugs.

Cigarettes(nicotine) are addictive beacuse your cells become on dependent on them. you're cells don't become depemdent on Tetrahydrocannabinol.

QUOTE Alot of drugs and especially psychedelic drugs open you mind to new ideas and thoughts, you notice and get hung up in things you would normaly not care about. Alcohol makes your mind a big fussy mess of thoughts and it often provokes rare feelings and amplify them. If you don't have a clear mind while taking mind altering drugs, you will get paranoia, desperation, tripping and can't find the way back out, claustrophobia, fear etc(what i have experienced) Basically the **** will hit the fan and that is what you'd call a badtrip
psychedelic drugs are not party drugs! And must be taken with caution, all drugs must be that.

There is a way to do psychedelic drugs, There a guild line. If you're interested pm me.

QUOTE If you are not a party human, i'd recommend pot as it is less risky than alcohol and alot better  You may want to try salvia too! (legal psychedelic drug!!) It is not as extreme as shrooms, on shrooms you can trip for an hour or two, on salvia you will only trip for 10minutes. So don't worry about a bad trip!

Arg. I did savlia twice. Once was such a bad trip, i relaly don't suggest it to the first time user. if you want to get into these types of drugs, start at LSA (It's like muchrooms but without the visuals, Well from what i've heard.) Or mushrooms, which I started at. LSD should come some time after, althou LSD is safer as it's made without toxins.

I know that marijuana is safer then tabaco as well as alcohol. but I have to disagree with you, I belive marijuana IS a party drug. It's safe. You're still in control, the fact that someone else in the party doesn't do it will not make you're high worse( like LSD and Mushrooms), and it wont drag you down. Other party drugs (like E) I don't suggest.

Click here for something new about cancer and THC that you did not know.

Think they're lying? Click here.

If you're not okay with smoking, then please. Extract the THC, place it into something with a little (to none) sugary baked good.

~sigh~ it didn't take long for me to call someone an idiot on this forum.

Here my repost as asked by the monitors. Althou I belive this needs a new thead.

So as some of you might have noted. I like mushrooms.

If anyone else does lsd/Mushrooms and has a great story (Anime or non-Anime related) Please share, As I wish to find new things to do (or anime to watch) while on shrooms.

Here's mine:

Every year. me and some friends (happen to be 3 of us that year) go up to a cottage for a week, we 'fend for out selfs' while smoking alot of pot, drinking, and one day we trip on shrooms.

Well, two years ago I thought it would be a good idea if we watched elfen lied while we're tripping on shrooms. I had already watched elfen lied, so I had a good idea as to how we would react... I had download two different copys with different sub titles, and the one I watched at home, Seemed normal enoufe....

we started up the first eps, and everything went as expected. They freaked out, and wasn't sure if there was that much blood or not. They claimed down after like 2 eps(The OP fucked with them so much). I noticed somthing was wrong with the sub tittles, they seemed a little, directly translated. At one point, lucy/nyu ran away, and the two main chacters were sitting at a table, and the subtittles read "I want to be your proprite"

This really screwed with me. I could NOT figure out if this was the same anime I had watched. As we watched more and more, they where REALLY screwed up sub tittles.

We woke up the next day and watch the rest of the elfen lied.

If thats not an ammusing story to you, Well. Do mushrooms, You'll get it then.

Also, I'm sure I'm not the only person who's seen that set of subs, Does anyone else know of this set? Please pm me or leave a message.

I asked for a suggestion, and damienstryker-dono was nice enoufe to give me 5 great looking anime's. But, as I watched a clip of "The Count of Monte Crisco (Gankutsuou)" I realised, This anime would be great for mushrooms. I have 8 grams sitting next to me and I'm going to find a weekend to sit down, consume, and then watch.

Please everyone post your story!

I've done and sometimes still do drugs. I consider people who do drugs because they have problems to be weak. Drugs aren't meant to help solve your problems. Drugs are meant to enhance an experience at any given moment. If you do drugs because you have a problem then your just enhancing that problem. I do drugs because I want to live on the edge till I go from walking this earth to lying six feet under it. Drugs help me to stay on edge as much as possible. Im a materialistic person so I tend to cling to things like money and power. For that reason cocaine is my drug of choice. The number one rule to remember when doing any drug is that you do the drug don't let the drug control you.

My father has a childhood friend and his son is mentally ill currently. One day he was found naked running through downtown and not knowing who he is. Well, the diagnose was, that he was smoking too much pot. Ever since then he has these episodes, where he suddenly disappears and when they find him, he doesn remember a thing, not even his name.

To say smoking pot is safe is a joke. Apart from the fact, that you can develop addiction to it (I know a bunch of people, who are addicted to pot. I dont know if that addiction is physical, but if nothing else, they cant stop smoking it, because their mind is asking for it), if the consumption is exagerated, it alters personality and has other efects as well.

I wonder why is it, that some people need artificial means to enjoy life. Is normal life too boring for them? I guess they dont have much imagination then....

My life is great, I love life.

I smoke weed on occasion.

artificial means to enjoy life? any form of entertainment is a way to distract yourself from the everyday life that you lead why is it then that you watch anime if your life is so interesting?

I smoke weed every few months with company and its a great way to spend an evening with a joint and a drink.

those of you who are dead set against drugs should relax and stop being so black and white, while I do agree that drugs such as heroin and cocaine are terrible and I myself would never go beyond smoking weed. There are people who just cant decide for themselves and I wish these people would just lighten up a little and stop wasting there life worrying.

Ive never had an addiction problem and ive never had any ill effects from smoking weed.

Ive never had the desire to smoke it more than every couple of months. the key to it is moderation~ anything can be bad for you if you do it too much.

Im willing to bet more people die from abuse of alcohol than from abusing weed.

Fact: Pot is not chemically addicting. Like anything, a person can become emotionally addicted to it. This is, however, true of anything like Television, the Internet, porn, and well....anime.

Fact: Smoking pot is safer than cigarettes or alcohol, both of which are readily allowed in most of the world. That's not to say it's 100% without health effects - smoking something is never great for your lungs - but smoking pot is less of a danger to my health than getting in my car and going to work. Zero people die from smoking pot each year. Hundreds of thousands(maybe even millions) die in auto accidents. For reference, if you tried to overdose on pot you would die of smoke inhalation effects long before the active drug actually killed you.

Fact:(99% likely) Your crazy streaker amnesia friend is not suffering from anything caused by pot. Marijuana has never in any testing caused these effects in the long-term(it's a hallucinogen technically, so it has the potential for short-term effects of this sort). You'd go crazier eating a bad mushroom than smoking as much of the best pot you can find. The longest-lasting reported effects of Marijuana were 24 hours, and then only noticed when doing jet-pilot testing on simulators(don't fly jets stoned).

Fact: Marijuana has a great variety of medicinal uses and is actually quite beneficial to a segment of the population. The sad truth is that it was only outlawed, shortly after prohibition, because of financial and racial reasons. There were many payoffs which led prominent doctors and the surgeon generals to OUTRIGHT LIE and say there were observable health effects, to preserve the paper and cotton industries. Hemp(basically pot) is a very versatile crop which can be used to make everything from fuel oil to paper to clothing or rope. It is cheaper and easier to manufacture from, and would very likely have put the other industries out of business entirely.

The racial component was that it was primarily smoked by immigrants - mostly from Mexico - at the time and this was seen by racists to make them "Crazy and dangerous" leading to propaganda films like 'Reefer Madness'.

Fact: More than 6% of Americans smoke pot on a REGULAR BASIS(daily to weekly). 15 million people probably aren't all wrong.

Fact: Reaction time for motor skills, such as driving, is reduced by 41% after smoking one joint and is reduced 63% after smoking two joints. The little girl on her bike in the drive-thru can tell you: don't drive stoned.

My recommendation for anyone who is unsure about Marijuana is to try it. If you like it, smoke more if you want. If you don't, then don't smoke it. Don't make baseless sensationalist accusations based on an emotional response - that's how it was made illegal in the first place.

Sorry for the text blob, I'm pretty entwined in this issue myself.

Dont worry, your post was interesting. Well, I never said smoking cigarettes and drinking alcohol was any better. In fact I believe that if a government prohibits marihuana, it should prohibit alcohol and cigarettes as well. And since alcohol and cigarettes are free, so should be marihuana.
The problem with prohibiting things is, it is a lot easier to prohibit something from the very start, then to prohibit something that was originally free. People dont like things being taken away from them.

Allthough I have never smoked mariahuana, I dont look down on people, who occationally do. Life is hard and yes, sometimes we need a little get away or something, that will make our lives a bit colorfull. So, I dont consider marihuana dangerous per se, nor do I think, that it should be prohibited. I just wanted to point out, that it is not completely safe. There are risks that people should be aware of, but most young people prefer to think there are no risks. I remember once we had this drug seminar at my school and I overheard two girls making fun of it in the restrooms. The way they were laughing at it angered me. So I asked them, if they think this is such a light issue and if they really believe, they know so much more about this, than a professional, who works with addics every day. There faces turned from surprised to serious and one of them said: "well no, but common this seminar....." she trailed off as if she wanted to say: "what a stupid way to instruct us... as if though we needed it." They thought they knew everything better. I asked her, if she has a better suggestion how to make young people aware of the dangers of drugs..... well, she didnt. I am pretty sure they made fun of me after I left, but I felt good for having said that.

I dont think alcohol should be prohibited since we are consuming it for thousands of years so we are genetically ''used to''. However, it is true that alcohol is a carcinogen but when you drink reasonably, it lower the chances that you have heart diseases. It is problably the only popular drug that is REALLY beneficial to us unlike pot and tobacco.

-chi
Kouhai
Alcohol is no more a carcinogen than Diet Coke(probably less than Diet Coke actually, damn you Saccharin!).

Pot has cured symptoms of cancer in several patients, and improves the quality of life in many others. Alcohol DIRECTLY causes thousands of deaths each year. Cigarettes cause hundreds of thousands, if not more. Pot causes zero.

Cigarettes lower(and then raise) blood pressure and put stress on the heart. Alcohol thins the blood and causes stress on the heart and circulatory system, and destroys liver cells. Marijuana causes no known physiological effects except delayed reaction time and overall relaxation.

So again, how is alcohol more beneficial than pot?

Alcohol is not more beneficial. I believe pot can cause mental problems, if abused over a long period of time. I personally find the fact that some people cant relax and live without it disturbing enough.

Tecnically Pot does not cure symptoms as that's an incorrect statement (it's impossible to cure symptoms, you cure th cause not the symptoms), but whilst Pot has been known to temporarily alleviate some cancer symptoms this is not sometyhing that happens all the time. The over use of any drug over a long period of time is ALWAYS bad for the human body.
Case in point is that even alcohol can cause serious probloems mentally.
It would be a less that suitable idea to use statistics to prove anything on this forum by the way Silico, unless you are going to link to a respectable medical journal. This is because even medical journals if they use statistics have to describe how they got the figures and where the figures came from.
Also, "statistics can be made to prove anything 9/10 people know this"
tongue.gif

Back on point, the use of drugs is never a good thing except in extreme cases where it will SIGNIFICANTLY improve the quality of life of somebody and must be taken on a case by case basis weighing up both the benefits and disadvantages. Always remember any drug is bad in the long run as the human body is not designed to operate properly under constant exposure to a drug.
I have to agree with Warita to say that alcohol is more beneficial isn't exactly true, it's just perceived that way as it'sa widely accepted drug. I myself have seen people suffering from symptoms similar to Alzheimer's because of constant moderate level drinking and alcohol withdrawal symptoms that are comparable to many less accepted drugs.

I don't drink or smoke. It detracts from your health in the long run.

Its not worth it to lose like 10 years off your life, just to "relieve stress" for a while/night in my opinion.

Unless you medically need to, and a doctor says its your best course of action. Just don't get addicted.

I have tried a few drugs and the worse one by far is alcohol, you can make some really bad moves while on the stuff (especially after the 8/9th pint) and the next morning you wake and realise what a dumbass you've been. It also has the benifits of making you feel like a swimming pool (not good for dancing) and the dreaded hangover.
Incase you're wondering why I haven't stopped after the 3th or 4th pint, it's the same reason I started. Social convention. When you're out with friends you want to drink with them and generally the drinking doesn't stop till the end of the night! The way round this i've found is to change my drink from a pint of lager to a jack an' coke, shot or even bottle of lager. Though this is much more expensive I find
sad.gif
.

The best drug I've tried so far is bonging weed with friends, it's really relaxing (and hilarious.) No regrets, no pain, no fuss, just fun

.

I look forward to further broadening my horizons.
