Roflcopter originated from a Warcraft III mod in its forums.

It is an ASCII art depicting a helicopter with LOL for its feet and ROFL for its rotor blades.

It was apparently a reference to the "gyrocopter" and the players who mass produce them just to ruin the game. The other players ROFL when the mass of gyrocopters manage to destroy one of the other players' farms after a long time.
