I was mistaken for a 15 years old, when I was 23.

It happened some years ago, when my sister forgot an important assignment at home and mother send me with it to her school to bring it to her. So there I was, standing at the front entrence and it was locked. WTF, how can they lock the main entrence??? I rang the bell over and over again, nobody came... I was getting pissed, so I started banging the door with my fist out of frustration when suddenly a teacher came down and gave me a dressing down, you wouldnt believe. And when I complaind about the closed door, she told me to shut up, because she has better things to do then to play the doorman for late comers.

It wasnt until that moment, that I realized she thinks I am attending the middle school there..... so the oldest I could be is 15. LOL

Getting carded for a video game at 29? You are small time, man! I got carded buying one at 35.

It's a pretty constant thing too. I live in a college town and am regularly mistaken for a college student. I'm not complaining, though. There are wost things out there than people thinking you are younger than you are.

When I was younger, in my mid teens, I was constantly mistaken for older than I was (15 mistaken for 18, 18 for 20, etc). Now that I'm older, I'm always mistaken for younger (22 for 19, etc).

I always liked being mistaken for being older than I was when I was younger, now it's frustrating being mistaken for being younger. People treat you different and it gets really irritating when someone treats you like a kid...especially at stores/restaurants where they decide not to serve you because you wont be as likely to spend money/tip as well ~_~

This happened when I was 22 yrs old. I went with my sister to her highschool open house when she was 15, and it was my old highschool so I was excited to go back and look around. They were having tours of the building, and I wanted to ask something about it (I totally forget what I asked, clearly nothing important) and the tourguide (a student at the school) asked me if I was the mother of the child who would be attending OR if I'm the student. Is my age THAT ambiguous?!? I said neither, I'm the older sister

Even now at 26 people generally see me as younger than I am, maybe 21-23 probably because I'm pretty short.

My sister has that problem when I'm with her (the younger part at least). She's 4 years older than I am, but when I'm with her people tend to think she's younger than she actually is. I remember when I was 16 and she was 20 some clerk at a department store thought we were twins. Made my sister unhappy but me and my dad thought it was hilarious.

^ My fine fellow, having seen your sweet likeness, I would venture to say you can easily pass such compliments. I would wager you can either pass for the "handsome man about campus" or rule on the field of Football glory as a Heisman trophy winner.

I was already a professional woman of independent means. Having just graduated from Nursing School and already, working full-time in a hospital, I had my own apartment and was content.
Now then, one of many amusing incidents happened to me, with regards to the theme of this here thread...one night, my cousin and I and our respective boyfriends at the time, well, we went out for drinks and niteclub hopping...now mind you, the guy I was dating back then was three years younger than me, hell, I was the oldest of the bunch and yet when we came to the door of the niteclub we were looking to enter, the bouncer looked us over then, looking right at me said, "your ID, please." I smiled wide and gleefully obliged. I was flattered...still am after all of these years...ah, good memories.

Happened to me plenty of times even when providing valid ID. Either they make up some strange rule for their bar/pub (only 23 and above can drink) or they claim your ID is fake when it is not. The problem is if you dare to question their judgement then there is always the chance things will escalate as they think you are becoming a violent drunk. Usually I calmly ask why I am not allowed and just laugh quietly at the reasons given then I leave, go elsewhere and never set foot on that pub/bar again. It has been hard to do that at times particularly when I had a lot to drink that night but I can't be bothered to deal with the flak so I just swallow my pride and move on.

There was an incident recently that was amusing. It occurred only a few months around October 2010 (sometime around then at least). I went to the cashier to buy some cutlery which consisted of forks, spoons and butter knives. Now when I went to pay the woman at the desk just said "I cannot sell this to you." I was a bit confused when she said this because my immediate thought was the set was somehow defective (she sounded so sure she couldn't sell it to me). But when looking at the set more closely and not seeing any flaws I got confused so I asked why she could not sell me the item. And then she spoke in a real patronising tone, as if I was 12 or something, and said: "Oh sorry love but you are too young to buy the knives". Oh and by the way you have to be 16 in England to purchase knives at the time I was 23. So I just had to produce my passport to show her my age and she promptly gave me the item. It is funny because I am used to being ID'ed hence me carrying my passport but she didn't even ask for that she was so sure I was under 16. I think that is a bit ridiculous I don't look that young I am sure of that. Something similar happened a couple years back when I tried to get matches (you have to be 16 to get those). Sigh I didn't know about that age limit until he asked me for ID...

All the time... my entire life I've been about 5 years younger than my actual age lols No one has ever got my age dead on without me telling them.

At least the police doesnt stop on street for drinking, once they even took my id, claiming it was false, it was just tiresome to get it back.
btw: im 20.

Mate, those sounds like similar stories to me. Whereas when I was 16, me and my friends found the whole process of getting into a club/bar/pub thrilling, now I find the whole process annoying. I have been going to places where we are escorted off the premises because it is 23 and over or 25 and over. Im thinking, please, as if I would still be going to these places if I was that age. Plus Im not the best person when it comes to handling bouncers. Its like all bouncers across the UK instinctively hate me and I always seem to gt into some kind of trouble.

Which brings me onto my travels in South East Asia, where age is nothing but a number. All they are concerned about is whether you have the money to back up your bs and if it hit the fans how they can hold you accountable. When I rented out an quad bike for a week in Thailand, they didnt ask my age or even if I had any prior driving experience (to which I had absolutely none). All they wanted was money and my passport (to stop me from leaving the country if I trashed the bike). Lo and behold, I crashed my bike two times, one in a small stream (thank to some mangy dogs who looked like they had rabies) and second on the road. Good times indeed.

I normally Look Older, thanks to the facial hair!

So, I WON'T get asked for ID (Good as I have none! Christ If I was born earlyer I'd be in Guantanamo bay cira 1940!)

But yeah... it CAN be a pain...

Same here! The hairier I am in public, the less likely I am to be carded, but if I go outside clean-shaven and a fresh haircut, people say I look ~18. Overall though, people think I'm a lot older than I actually am. I'm not really sure why, but I like to attribute it to premature maturity.

i wouldnt worry about it, people can sometimes guess weird numbers. It doesnt really mean you look 30.
