QUOTE (JCDRANZER @ Jun 03 2011, 10:21 PM) Thats quite a small list from the many that were released during that timeframe. I still need to finish off the first season of Arakawa, I won't get back into Fairy Tail for now. Not interested in Star Driver or Sket Dance.

I'm interested in Level E and Bakuman to a certain degree but I'm not pick them up for the time being.

The one I'm gonna pick for now is Ao no Exorcist but with only 7 eps out.....are there anymore suggestions ?

I know about Madoka but I'm not sure about it because it seems to be a heavily melodramatic series.
dry.gif

I wouldn't call Madoka melodramatic....it just has a number of holes by the end of the show that will make you scratch your head, hence why many claim Madoka as the magical girl Evangelion series.

As for why the list is so small, I myself am still working through stuff as far back as Fall 2010. From my understanding, you're looking for shows for some comedy action/shounen shows right?

I guess others would included The World God Only Knows, Nurarihyon no Mago, Mitsudomoe, Panty and Stocking, Toriko, and Tiger and Bunny. C and Nichijou would probably be stretching it. Looking back on the shows that aired since last summer, there aren't really that many that were similar to Beelzebub. Shiki doesn't have humor, but it's got decent action if you give it enough time (also good if you liked Twelve Kingdoms or Ghost Hunt). Legend of the Legendary Heroes wasn't a terrible show and not great either but may fit your Beelzebub category. Sekirei is a possibility since you seemed to enjoy Freezing. Most shows ended yup as "bleh" for the last year though and not to mention that there wasn't much selection either. This spring is probably the largest I've seen since the collapse in 2008.

To be fair, there's awful lot from last year that I'm sure I'll enjoy....hmmm, anyways I'll be to get all the Ao no Exorcist eps. Working towards getting all the eps to Nararihyon. I'm thinking of picking up Shiki, GOSICK, Occult Academy, Steins;Gate, To Aru no Majutsu no Index II, the recent GAINAX and SHAFT series and a few OVAs.

I'd recommend saving yourself the time by not watching Occult Academy. It starts out strong, but falls down a huge cliff until the end, which even then is questionable. As for enjoyment, I personally didn't enjoy many shows last year despite watching most of them, though you may think otherwise since my standards are usually pretty high. Not to mention I didn't list stuff like Otome Youkai Zakuro, Yosuga no Sora, or OreImo since they don't fit what you're looking for even though I personally enjoyed them.

QUOTE I know about Madoka but I'm not sure about it because it seems to be a heavily melodramatic series.

Drama more that melodrama. There's still some of the latter, but it's in passing. Nothing like what you asked recommendations for, since it's not a typical shounen action.

This season's recommendations for you would be [C] and Exorcist; maybe Deadman Wonderland. Can't think of earlier stuff cause I don't normally watch this style of anime. Here's a thought though - if you don't get enough suggestions here, you can head over to Chartfag's Den and sift through preview chart archives...

Yeah, I was doing the chartfag thing yesterday and I did come across a few, there was an awful lot of ecchi last year than compared to this year though.

I won't talk about Spring 2010 season because I did watch most of them, just not complete them.
wink.gif

The series that have peaked my interest from Summer 2010 to now are (a few of them are sequels of what I watched before): -

Sekirei Season 2, High School of the Dead, Nurarihyon no Mago, Shiki, Panty & Stocking, Psychic Detective Yakumo, Kuragehime, Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru, Index 2, Otome Youkai Zakuro, The World Only God Knows 1 & 2, Arakawa 2, Sora no Otoshimono 2, Kimi ni Todoke 2, Madoka, GOSICK, Freezing, Beelzebub (watching), Fractacle and Level-E.

The ones that I want to watch from the current season are: -

"Yondemasuyo, Azazel-san", Toriko, Gintama', Steins;Gate, Hidan no Aria, Ao no Exorcist (watching), Deadman Wonderland, [C], AnoHana and Honto ni Atta! Reibai-sensei.

Kit, definitely one of the biggest seasons, 48 animes premiered for the Spring 2011 season compared to 34 anime series that started in Spring 2010.

The thing is, I don't want melodrama like in School Days, which kinda made me sick and I don't want proper drama for the time being as I'm still in the midst of my final exams that finish later this month.

^HSoD is also full of ecchi, btw. And, IMNSHO, a pretty poor anime as well.
Nurarihyon is a very kiddy anime, and also very derivative.
Panty & Stocking is anime shorts.
Soremachi is probably one of SHAFT's worst, compared to their other works, wouldn't recommend.
Otome Youkai Zakuro looks very pretty, but is pretty bland otherwise. Kinda shoujo-tastic as well. Worth trying, though.
Arakawa 2 is as good as the first.
Reibai-sensei is also shorts, but full of awesome.
Deadman Wonderland is probably best of the season, though a bit rushed.

You're missing out on Tiger&Bunny, btw, it's one of the best this season.

P.S. the link to your anime list is missing a character.

EDIT: things I personally recommend that you didn't list:

-House of Five Leaves
-King of Thorn movie
-Loups Garous movie
-Nodame Cantabile (I'm assuming it's an error in your anime list, but if it isn't go correct that asap)
-Kurozuka
-Oblivion Island (movie)

Thanx Ausdo for the update and I'll edit my sig.

What is IMNSHO ?

Nurarihyon...kiddy ? I guess because of the protagonist being 12 years old but the manga was exceedingly good....is the anime unfaithful to it or something?? I was really looking forward to watching this series.
sad.gif

Just found out that Psychic Detective Yakumo is crap. Tiger & Bunny, I've got my eye on it but I'm gonna wait till there's about 15+ episodes to it and then marathon it.

You should formulate your own opinions on what you like or don't like...after all you are the FTV Otaku of Forever...old friend.
wink.gif
Just 'cause a person says it ain't no good does not mean it isn't...I liked it lots and look forward to Season II. Kiddie? Please? Had to laugh at that...everyone has their own opinions/favorites...Capitano...go with what you wanna watch after taking a little from everyone else's likes and dislikes and recommendations...
wink.gif

I will say if I ever listened to what some say is good and what is not good, I would have missed out on some good stuff and gotten stuck watching crap...no thanks. I don't buy into what the ANN critics always have to say either.
wink.gif

QUOTE Just found out that Psychic Detective Yakumo is crap
Aside from hottie-kun, Yakumo...yeah, on this one I will agree.
wink.gif
CRAP!
Anyway, you got enough on your anime plate now to consider...enough to pick and choose and drop and watch...just relax and have fun now.

In My Not So Humble Opinion.

Well, I never read the manga and I expected it to be similar to Natsume, but it certainly looked a lot less deep and mature to me, more like an average kid/teenager show. I heard that it's supposed to become a "generic shounen action" later on, but I can't confirm, and can't say I'd care if it did either.

That, and the first few eps were a giant yawn so I didn't bother to watch on. From what I heard, it didn't get any better. It's up to you to try it I can't really guess what your tastes are since your anime list looks almost like a list of all anime ever released in the last 20 years.

I thought you were referring to an anime tbh.

Yaya, I'm sowy....I'm gonna watch Nurarihyon and see how it turns out but fingers-cross that its just like how I imagined.

Aus, Nurarihyon is more like Kekkaishi....nothing like Natsume Yuujin-chou, which is more slice-of-life.

The thing with my anime list, is that it only contains stuff I've watched since 2007 and nothing before.

I've watched 2/3 of Kurozuka and House of Five Leaves. Nodame was one of my favs but I never completed it. King of Thorn movie, I've been wanting to watch that since like 2 years ago when it was announced. The werewolf movie, I might since its less than 2 hours but I've heard that its a rather forgettable experience.

There was this anime I was really looking forward to and I remember watching the 15-sec trailer, its an anime that was like 5 or 10 years in the making by this really famous animator/director, who used to be a mangaka. It was meant to be released last fall but it doesn't look like it has. Its about this knight protecting this very important girl to a certain destination. I can't remember the name of the guy behind it or the actual name for the anime either.

Wait....I just remembered its was Gothicmade: Hana no Utame by Mamoru Nagano.

Capitaho! You sowy? For what? No need..no need! You enjoy your choices and gambatte! That's the way to do it...I mean gee...you weren't voted Anime Otaku for nothing you know...
tongue.gif
As far as Nurarihyon goes, it was a fun series and nothing more...no in-depth analysis is needed, nor any deep understanding as to the why of the characters...hell, you read the manga so you already know the premise of the story and how funny it can be. I don't remember it being deep or serious but it was fun, silly, bishie yokai, kawaii yokai girls...Bah! Whatever....you decide for yourself and just have fun, regardless.

Edit**I would recommend you give Madoka a shot. Very good series...I am no fan of the magical girl genre but when I watched the first episode just to see what all the fuss was...I was hooked. Now, should you decide to watch that one, you will need your anime thinking cap on...it is dark, deep and serious in its storytelling. The animation style was very unique as was the music. Give it a try.

QUOTE I've watched 2/3 of Kurozuka and House of Five Leaves.

Strange of you to do that, they're the type of series that don't make much sense until the very end...

QUOTE The werewolf movie, I might since its less than 2 hours but I've heard that its a rather forgettable experience.

I found it to be really entertaining, actually. Sure, the novel fans have been whining that it doesn't follow the original word to word, but don't they always do that?

The reason....Exam period. Anyways, I watching GOSICK now and I knew I was going to love it because its from one of my favourite genres.

I haven't been watching anime for about the last five or six years because I got tired of seeing the same cliches over and over again and finding series that didn't just feel like rehashes of everything else I'd seen was getting difficult but I thought I'd check back in to see if there's anything fresh out there now.

Is there any recent series out there that have believable characters with more emotional maturity than the average 10 year old and a plot that works without totally demolishing the viewer's suspension of disbelief?

There've been a few non-standard ones like that, but I'm too lazy to check atm. For now, just go watch Dennou Coil.

I suppose August is considered the month..."dog days of Summer."

Anyway, from the looks of this place, sure looks like it too but WAIT! Have I got one for you all! A badass of a racing fantasy/cars/sports anime movie! It was almost three years ago some of us posted a trailer and were salivating for said movie to get subbed...well, the great anime studio MADHOUSE delivered.
I loved it!
http://myanimelist.net/anime/6675/Redline
What a ride! Great action/racing...good and very interesting characters...beautiful women, hot men...a fast, car racing fantasy come true. Be sure not to miss the "shady deals" going on behind the scenes... Check it out!

Just happened to download that the other day as well, and I've gotta say, the general setting and style is very similar to Tailenders. I have to say, I like the general concept of the Tailenders better than the somewhat trivial main story of Redline, though the latter is obviously better-developed since it doesn't try to cram everything into 40 minutes. Still, Redline is a fun movie to watch with your mind turned off, if only for the pretty animation.

I did not care for Tailenders while I loved Redline. Tailenders would have been just as great had there been more meat to the story. Ah well...I do agree though, the animation style for Redline was just sheer "eye candy magnificent." That war council room was especially fascinating. When one of the characters was asked to prepare that weapon of mass destruction to blow our racing gang to smithereens, well, his walking or wading on into that so-called strategic war board and then maneuvering the computer with his head inside, well, that was just beautifully done.
My fangirl heart was aflutter at the sight of pretty badboy, sweet JC. What to do?
tongue.gif
Loved the background music as well. Haha...a fun watch indeed.
You all are missing out if you have not watched it yet. Then again, some anime folks just are not anime adventurous enough. ;-)

Actually, I think Tailenders already had more meat to the story than Redline, it's the development/characterization that it lacked due to short duration. Or maybe less meat, but more juicy, if that makes any sense at all. Redline has the same storyline as a gazillion racing movies, and tastes abit stale. If not for the gorgeous animation work, the movie would've been largely unimpressive. Then again, it does seem to have been made to rely on the graphics, and it does hold viewers' attention, so for most purposes it succeeded.

I AM still wondering about the origins of both works, though, since the basic concepts are more or less identical.

Hiya, I’m looking for some recommendations for the past season(s). I like to watch the full season, so I wait till the season ends before I try an anime out. Also I like to have the whole season be downloadable by fansub.tv.

I tend to watch all Sports anime found on FS.tv so I’ve probably already watch any suggestion in that category.

Here is a list of some of the more current stuff I’ve watched:
Kaiji (Love it!)
Giant Killing (Enjoyed - Sports Anime)
Ookiku Furikabutte (Sports Anime… a little slow)
Code Geass (Only liked it first season, LOVED it after the second season)
Bakuman (Enjoy – can’t wait for season 2)
Major (LOVED IT)

I love One Piece!
I also enjoy watching Naruto, but when the fillers started coming I stopped watching them weekly. I actually watch all of Shippendo like 2 months ago, until I jumped off again because of fillers.
I loved Death Note.
I watched Bleached, but dropped it after the second set of fillers.

Looking at the first page in the forum:
My eye caught onto Fairy Tail, but it looks like its one of those on-going forever anime, same deal with Gintama.
I watched K-On!, not my cup of tea. But I enjoyed Beck.
Nothing else on the first page sounds familiar.

I’m currently downloading the first ep of Dog Days, because that seems to be the anime to watch this season next to GOSICK. I want to try GOSICK, but it doesn’t look like FS.tv provides it. Any other suggestions? I don't think I've watched anything for the last 3 years. Oh, is the new FMA worth watching if you already watched the first run?
