You guys ever thought about registering a channel on IRC for fansub.tv? I think itd be pretty cool to have a place to chat, alongside the forum. I know some stuff about IRC, so I'd be of assistance if need be.

Just a thought.

An IRC channel? The thing that bothers me most about IRC channels is that most of the people who are in there aren't actually there. They just idle and it's like.. almost impossible to start a conversation.

Agreed. Considering the Fansub.TV community is so small, and that almost none of us live in similar time zones, we would be spread so thin throughout the day it would be practically worthless.

well that depends on what channel your in, but alot of channels are for purely distro sometimes, and so no one talks.... there are plenty out there though that are quite talkative, and the size really isn't all that relevent

You mean the point of IRC? Chatting about the latest eps, views in general and ranting and moaning at daily life; stuff that may feel out of place on a forum basically. I don't think the hosting of eps would work anyway- most people are here because they can't download off BT or IRC.

actually, the true benefit of having an IRC channel is that when the website is down (due to maintainance or whatever reason) we could go check the status and latest news on IRC channel..

irc channels are usually for chatting but in the animeworld its usually a bunch of ppl idling, and being used to distribute episodes to save bandwith off their site's server. but yea, lotsa ranting of daily life and what not as well

also most fansub groups dont mess with forums much, atleast they didn't in the past, I think more use forums now.

They mainly have the forums for users to leave feedback and/or discussing the episodes. I'd rather rant over irc or msn etc rather than on a forum ;/ personal preference.

Where did the basis of that come from

It's still heavily used for distro for anime and manga. Ok bittorrent are mainstream but i still think IRC distro stills forms the backbone of the anime community.

lolz... irc going down in use? .....................

erm far from it. Irc is here to stay, bt while nice, will never touch irc. Its great for on the spot releases, but once the popularity goes down, so does the torrent, and unless you have a nice fansub group with some dedicated seeds running at high speeds, it will go down. irc is always been my first choice, LOl and with irc theres no ranting of premature morons saying "the bt is going slow, can someone seed it?" or something to that effect X_X

i remember [ax] had serious issues with that, same with several others.
