Hmmmm just a thought but how about we have our own Radio Station, i mean it would be nice to be browisng the site and listening the 'Subber Radio' or somehting like that, you could allow Mods or Sempais to create the playlist, pm or post for recomndations etc.....

But im aware that do this it takes up Badwith thoguh and it could be a problem....

Second is to have a shout box?

Since not everyone can acess Teamspeak all the time, or just cant download it for other reasons,

It allows members to talk to each other while browsing the site, just an idea though.....

SB is a good and bad idea... geeze the forum I went to had the SB...be gettins spammer bandwidth spammer... and ppl something even post porn, guro pics or even Pedo images... dang was just browsing the site and i ran accoss one of them...

I go with the idea for the radio..i like that.I will have a microphone soon enough to be with the teamspeak guys but a radio will have us tunned in the whole time
biggrin.gif

The radio would be pretty cool, but would suck up bandwidth like no tomorrow I'd think; maybe we could host it externally though?

As for the shoutbox; just limit it so you can only post in it if you have a chan or greater, to prevent spammers and bad things. Most of the people who have -chan have been around long enough to know better. -chi is too easy to get, and would be abused by people trying to be @ss holes...

The idea of having a radio station and podcasts is already up for discussion for Team Members and Sempais for months. We do have radio channels on TS, only problem is not everybody can get on TS.

But if any of you have any good idea's on how to create a radio station for the general public without using TS let us know.

Hmmm ill look into ways of getting radio stations set up then....... Sorry i didnt know it was already being discussed.

As for the shout box, a limiter would be a good idae, but how about san instead of chan? But even then spam and adult material could still be a problem...

Even so, the SB is a bad idea overall. There's still a huge chance of spam, and we don't have any way to limit that except remove those comments from the box, and that's a hassle for us.

The radio station is an up-for-grabs idea. Daft presented the idea initially, then I came around and second the promotion, and then others after me joined in on the idea too. We still have to figure out how to work out a schedule for it (since FTV is somewhat a global community and we want DJs for different timezones).

There is, indeed, a possible way of broadcasting music, through ShoutCast, since it can play on multiple players (Winamp, WMP, iTunes?, etc.) Bandwidth is indeed a problem, but not too much if the server has a lot to spend. But whatmore, we need a database for the music too, if the DJ doesn't provide his own collection of music (unlike... ehm.... me
huh.gif
).

KawaiiRadio have a streaming radio station if you connected to your winamp vlc or something. If we learn how they do it it can be made into this site.

or

We can make a custom Flashplayer and place the song in it like some site have.

But yea SB = bad lol it good for talking like aim but there will be cases of bad stuff alot.

I would personally recommend shoutcast. It has many advantages, and a few disadvantages, all of both I will list.

Advantages
  • Many receive-clients supported, even portables (PDA's ect)
  • The send client can be as simple as a winamp plugin.
  • The actual sever that broadcasts the radio stream does not have to be the DJ's PC.
  • The input options are endless, advanced DJ's can set up a mixer and do all sorts of things that can be done on commercial radio.
  • Advertisements can be sold, to offset bandwith cost.
  • The radio station can be used for announcements as well, to raise awareness about certain events.
  • The station can be automated easily when there is no live DJ present.

Disadvantages
  • Set up is not user-friendly.
  • The more popular the station, the greater bandwidth used.
  • As with any remotely connected system, there must be layers of protection installed to prevent abuse by un-authorized third-parties.

Ive found some broadcasting software which looks promising something called Ubroadcast, im going to download it tomorrow and see how it does and ill probably post my findings later on in the week, provided the idea of a Radio station is still okay with you all.

We can always try it out and see what happends. If this works good and doesn't take that much bandwith from the FTV servers i think daft will agree on this.

Also if you need help with something, just contact me or other FTV team members.

I'm pretty sure KawaiiRadio uses SAM Broadcaster from SpatialAudio Solutions. When I was a DJ a few years back, that was pretty much all that we used: SAM4.

I'm for the idea of shoutbox, however we should come up with something to prevent spammers and crap-spillers :/. Otherwise it'll look and function just as a shoutbox my friend put on his board: handful of people saying totally unnecesary things, insulting one another and getting really carried out at times. And all of this within boundaries of one nation and mentality o_O. Could you imagine what would happen if it wasn't controlled while mixing up multiple nationalities and beliefs? Real-time disaster _-_.

I know i have been away from this thread, but my laptop is bust so i havnt had much time as id like.

Okay for the past week me and my friend have been experiementing with Shoutcast, its easy enough to use only if you have stared at ti for a while though, but the problem is im not good with servers and connectiovity etc, so i wouldnt know how to hook it up to the net or anyhting though, but accoriding the the website for it either our own server or a third party hosting solution, im leaving that to the higher-ups to solve that one.

But its also available on Mac and Linux so if any of you are using something other than windows then your good.

As for Ubroadcast the other program i was looking at, i havnt had chance to test that yet with my laptop being in such a mess.

So its up to you guys to see if you want to test it or not.

I know this thread is about 2 years old now, my god its been awhile. Dunno if anyone still has any interest in a FTV radio station now though, especialy with the low activity.

Anyways, ive got my hands on SAM Broadcaster awhile ago now and ive been trying to figure out how to use it, and then im going to look into hosting the broadcast and what not, and i was wondering if any of you are still interested in the idea of FTV radio and what not, and if so anyone care to help me out if i do get it online like listening to it and what not?

Nothing wrong with that idea since it might get more people onto this site if you ask me. Also, the show that I'm doing as of now can be hosted on this site if need be. I mean the episodes we have so far can put something on for the time being you know.

Wow major resurection of an old thread.
I've not used SAM broadcaster but I have run a shoutcast radio before, and its not that hard to set it up. Its actually pritty easy to just give it a pile of mp3 files and have it loop through them.

Bandwidth isnt a huge problem providing its run on unmetered servers, but the problem is we would need to alocate bandwidth from what is already alocated to things. This would mean having to reduce whats available for downloads etc.

A much bigger problem is the copyright and licensing. The US music biz recently changed how internet radio was licensed, and its the reason why a lot of internet radio stations have shutdown, they simply couldnt afford the fees, and there is ofcourse the legal issues of trying to use the music for free, and a nice big fine if caught.

Re the shoutbox - a much better idea would be an irc interface. Many people already hang out on rizon, including myself, the FTV-Subs group and part of the J-zine team. Why not build in a simple java irc app into the site insted?

Necrorise...

Still, thought I'd say sth.

1. Radio - good idea, with two cautionary notes. 1) Copyright issues? Not sure if it applies, but gotta be careful; 2) for the sake of all that's holy/unholy allow the user to initiate it; sites that automatically blast music at you are a) annoying and
cool.gif
eat up bandwidth when you might not want them to; 3) would be great if it could somehow carry over across pages so you could keep listening while browsing, sth like the way they did it here: http://www.samael.info/ (caution blasting music)

2. Shoutbox - not a good idea, imo. Basically, if we're trying to resurrect the forums, wouldn't we want the people to post ITT instead?

QUOTE 2. Shoutbox - not a good idea, imo. Basically, if we're trying to resurrect the forums, wouldn't we want the people to post ITT instead? What we would like is one thing, but the issue is that in some way activity and life has to be generated here. In the past I wasn't a fan of a shoutbox either but ftv cannot stay living in the past. One main issue is the general lack of activity here, so and if a shoutbox can at least boast activity here a little bit and if theres a chance that thus activity in the forum increases as well, then it is something which has to be considered.

Well eventually we need to do something new for this site since things can't keep going as they are anymore. I'm still all for the radio idea since it gives off a feel that this site talks more than just anime only.

Also, the shoutbox it can be useful if implmented properly though. I mean you have to have an idea on how you want it to be used, by it being there for technical issues on the site or episodes, to general comments about the site and whatnot.
