i hereby use my voice of change suggestion
biggrin.gif

currently, out of the 84 anime's FTV has, ONLY 42 (that's 50%) have a description as to what the anime is about. and a lot of those anime's don't describe very well

Now, i know you guys are busy running the site and all, that is why i give this suggestion.
give me ultimate admin powers of destruction, or maybe just enough as to change the descriptions (up to you) for the anime's and i'd GLADLY update them for you. i wouldn't expect the admin powers to last, just long enough for me to finish the update (which really wouldn't take more than a couple of hours)

it's very frustrating for me to see an anime that looks interesting, and then not have a description.

if it can't be done through the site and it'd have to deal with FTP'ing files back and forth, i can still do so as i have experience with building, setting up, and running websites.

As for the trust factor, well that's up to you. i'm just saying, i'd gladly update them if you'd be willing to give me access.

you can either shoot my idea down in this thread, or PM me

o_O wow...i think we found our next "daft" ....and he talks!

One of the next planned changes to the site includes this, the ability to modify the information describing a series and even add a short synopsis for each episode. Combined with the new "personal favorites," this will really help people select which animes they want to try out if they don't have the time to try em all out.

From the description, sounds more like a members only wiki.
Where people can add or corect the content of things like anime descriptions. If thats the case, i'm alsways a bit worryed that an evildower, will come by, and simply delete everything because he thinks that its fun. (yes, unfortunatly, there are such people in the world!)

Since I'm guessing that we dont have the budget for daily backups of all the site, that would be a concern.

yes I have to agree with bold we should have backup. For case if something bad happen to the forum like Viruses or hackers.

i assume there'll only be an add feature, so people can't delete anything. that, or moderators can delete, or something along those lines.

but now that daft has spoken, i'm happy

keep up the good work boys

I know its a pretty obvious thing to add, but i cant help but be a fool, how about also having user reviews of the series?

As well as edible synopses, it would be nice to be able to amend or extend the anime categories.

For instance the Cooking section currently doesn't list Karin, despite the central role her cooking plays in the series.

Similarly Higurashi is generally regarded as a thriller, but there is no such category at present. (In the absence of this I think it should be added to the horror category, as Higurashi is not for the faint hearted, something not evident from its current "Drama, Game, Mystery" classification.)

I would like to second the motion of allowing interested members to add or edit information on the synopses, particularly when some animes can prove to be somewhat confusing. Sometimes Also it would be nice to be able to perhaps correct some of the typos or grammatical mistakes

in some of the synopsis...

There should be no fear of that if you can track the people contributing to the synopsis (i.e. they should sign in before adding or modifying any information) Also this is supposedly a community, so if there are weird things being written, I'm sure someone will report it, plus the name of the perpetrator. You can adopt a zero tolerance policy, like banning this person for life or something...

Has there been any progress made in this area? I can imagine that there are numerous factors to consider. Creating a wikiesque system could solve some problems and yet introduce many others. It's sad that one has to consider those who seek to destroy rather than create (viruses and hackers).

I had also wondered about the dearth of synopses. An episode synopsis is a handy way to refresh the memory between long releases. While there are other options available, it is useful to have all the information centralised.

If this issue is resolved, then I would be more than happy to contribute. It would stop my fingers from itching every time I see errors in the existing synopses. At present, my fingers itch but my hands are bound.

Well, we moderators have open access to edit the anime description, updates, etc. So this is kind of solved and limited to authorized members.

Let's just say: if there's an error in the anime description, feel free to PM a moderator (not daft, he's busy and wouldn't like to get a lot of messages regarding descriptions.)

Ah! Fair enough. PM it is then!

Are you open to general members writing episode synopses and sending them to a moderator for approval?

I think that could be a good idea. After all, the mods can't view every series. At the same time, this doesn't allow just anyone to make/change summaries.

One hiccup I see with this: How will the mod know if the description is good or not? More or less the mod has to take the submitting user at his/her word, unless its something outrageous.

-usually if its enough to attract viewers who like the genre of the series
-*obviously* if it doesn't spoil too much
-it is accurate to a reliable source such as ANN, AnimeNfo, aniDB, etc...
-it will be compared to make sure it is not copy and pasted *if we're not lazy to check it* lol
-usually a brief summary of the first episode that helps sets up the main plot of the series.

Fair enough. Thank you for easing my worries on the topic, Kit-Tsukasa.
