Storyline: Nothing is known exactly so far, but the plot seems to take place in sort of modern a-bit-dystopian setting, filled with supernatural creatures. The show focuses on 4 girls, each having their own unique power, as well as weapon of choice, each based on a well-known fairytale.

Characters:(the names link to their respective trailers)
- Ruby (as in Red) - A character heavily inspired by Red Riding Hood. The main heroine of the show. Wields a sniper riffle/scythe hybrid, named Crescent Rose, as her weapon of choice. Seems to have lost someone in her past.
- Weiss Schnee (as in White Snow) - An ojou-sama idol type of character, inspired by both Snow White and Snow Queen fairy tales. Her weapon of choice is magical revolver/rapier hybrid, Myrtenaster.
- Blake Belladonna (as in Black) - A black-haired character strongly inspired by Beauty and the Beast. Her weapon of choice is pistol/whip/sword hybrid, Gambol Shroud. Is an apprentice/comrade of a man named Adam. Monty has referred to her as someone who "holds back a lot in the fights, trying not to loose herself".
- Yang Xiao Long (as in Yellow) - a blond hothead type of character, inspired by as many as three different fairytales - Godilocks, Cinderella and Rapunzel. Favorite weapon of choice - shotgun-gloves

Overall:
So yeah, we are getting closer and closer to the day it comes out and this seriously needs its own thread.

Monty Oum is generally well known for creating some of the most insane fight sequences ever, considering his Dead Fantasy work, which seemed to consistently turn it up to eleven with each part. His work on animating latter seasons of Red VS Blue was also exceptional and so far it seems he has truly let himself run with his creativity with this one, considering the downright insane weapon choices so far(rocket launcher bat? shotgun katana? etc).

Voice acting from what could have been heard ranges from decent(Yellow) to a bit mediocre(Red), but overall other parts of the show(its crazyness, character designs, music quality) seem to more than make up for it.

Story-wise not much is known, except for fairytale inspirations, a bit dystopian setting and supernatural involvement.

The whole thing already has got quite a bit of buzz in cosplay scene and it seems that japanese also are quite interested in it(obviously)

Anything like a trailer up yet? :U or at least more concept art, would be nice to see more of its visual style

Only the four trailers that I linked in the first post, so far. Apart form that there are some production stills Monty tweets from time to time.

I remember seeing the first trailer for this ages ago. It looked stunning. Completely forgot about it.

Now that yo have reminded me about it, I can't wait for it.

Is it going to be english voiced? :U Only thing I'm wondering about is the plot right now. Couldn't get a grasp of it through the trailers

With those graphics i would rather play this as a game then watch it as a show

So far i like yellow the most of the girls. Just have to wait and see how they will all interact with each other when this show is released.

Same... though I'm also kinda interested in white and black, in that order

For characters:

Yellow > > > > Black > White > Red

For Weapons:

Red > Yellow > Black > White

Red looks like the most boring character. But she has the most badass weapon of them all

I just wanted to point out that RWBY is not all Monty's work, a lot of people's input were actually put into the production of the series like Miles and Kary. If you watch or listen to the Roosterteeth Podcast, they often talk about RWBY's "pre-fanbase".

It still started in Monty's head years before he even made Dead Fantasy.
Its still animated by him in his usually crazy style of insanity.
The story is still what he wanted it to be and how he imagined it.

So yeah. He obviously is NOT alone involved in it, but it is his "child" for all intents and purposes

Anyway I love how each of trailers carefully parallel the fairytales the characters are based/inspired by:
  • Ruby, on the way from visiting someone's grave ends up encountering wolves.
  • Weiss is shown recollecting her fight against a huge knight(huntsman sent to kill her?) as a flashback. And you have the whole Snow Queen motifs with snowflakes as emblems.
  • Blake is accompanied by Adam(Beast's name in Disney version of Beauty and The Beast). Although in this case, it seems that both of them are Beauty and both of them are the Beast.
  • Yang enters a party(with a bear-DJ no less) uninvited and ends up violently "charming" the prince.
I do wonder what's the significance of decaying moon prevalent in every trailer.

(also just realized that RWBY can be read as Ruby. Freaking Clever....)

Does this mean Dead Fantasy is dead?

I'm still waiting for a conclusion....

Anyway, I watched the trailer for Yellow and it was pretty cool. I agree that Red's voice is really.....bad? Reminded me of terrible English dubs from the past.

Going by what is known from RTX, the basic premise of the show is this(spoilers for first ep):
An unspecified amount of time ago, the civilization was destroyed by malevolent forces

The remains of civilization used a substance known as Dust, to obliterate the darkness and start to rebuild the civilization, via use of it to achieve a fusion of magic and science, leading to humanity prospering yet again...Well that is at least what corporations are telling people, as the OP hints that the said "darkness" still exists and its not all black and white.

The story starts with a Dust shop heist, which gets interrupted by passing by Ruby. After the whole event, Ruby is confronted by the bunch of people called Hunters, who invite her to attend the Academy - a place where magic users are taught to fight monsters.

So basically - Ruby and Yang start attending the academy and become friends. Then Ruby bumps into Weiss(a heiress to a gigantic and shady corporation who holds monopoly over Dust,) who pretty much acts like a typical bitchy responsible ojousama, lecturing her over the importance of this whole thing, calling Ruby worthless etc. The typical "you are lower than me" kind of stuff. Weiss is interrupted by Blake, who basically snaps back at Weiss, leading all three of them parting ways.

From the way it goes it seems that the characters can be described this way:

* Ruby is a bit childish and clumsy and playful girl who for some reason wanted to get into Academy. Whatever her reasons are its connected to a person in white cloak that stands in front of her in the OP.
* Yang is the irresponsible "big sister" type who ends up getting into the fights and dodging responsibilities and chores for entertainment. A hotheaded one, basically.
* Weiss is a cold-hearted super serious high-and-mighty one, who pretty much has meritocracy as her worldview and despises anyone who acts childish or carefree.
* Blake is mysterious, a bit sassy and playful and loves to tease Weiss.

First Episode is out

The 1st OP

The show's first season will have 10 Chapters, each 16 episodes long, each episode ranging from 7 to 11 minutes.

Anyway, the fairytale aspect is VERY strong element of it, to the point that it feels like "OUAT the Anime", with every character introduced so far being based upon a famous fairytale character, with half the fun being trying to figure out how that fairytale relates to current situation.

The main plot seems to be "Humans versus Creatures of Grimm", with humanity, at the brink of destruction having invented some type of tech-magic in form of crystals and having enjoyed prosperity and peace(or so it seems) for quite some time. with giant megacorporations owning a monopoly on the resource. And the main plot seems to focus on Ruby Rose(a play on both Red Riding Hood and Rose Red) who, for some reason, i s hellbent to enter the Academy for hunters trained to hunt monsters.

Ruby's voice is nothing like the trailers and her personality is...not what I expected - she does have some airhead-ish behavior in her, but most of it seems to be just a front she presents others. Its her adopted sister, Yang, who is the cheery hothead one.

The first episode does not introduce Blake or Weiss(who will be a bit...controversial kind of character)

Animation is what one would expect, the fight choreography is freaking best I have ever seen, the pilot episode did suffer from pilot-itis, but overall plot seems to have potential. Oh and the OP is arguably one of best OPs I have ever seen.
