i meant also general conversion not only for PSP...thats why i said ahead of time so that if i make another topic it wouldn't have to get merged with this: another topic will prolly be made again if topic name doesn't go back...cause i wanna know about it for different media/video players.

mencode (part of mplayer) can convert preatty much anything to anything. It is extremely fast and can be used to convert a bunch of files with a few lines of script. The downside is that it is a command line only application. So its not really user friendly.

i stopped using mplayer it seems that it was like a virus on my pc after i uninstalled it; it stayed on my pc for several days until i finally got it removed a few days ago.

"WinAVI MP4 Converter"

that is the only program I recommend. Once you have it converted, you can transfer the file via psp's main program -PSP Max Media Manager-

I would use that but it seems the softwares trial version lets an image/writhing in the middle of the converted file.

Use SUPER (Simplified Universal Player Encoder & Renderer) from eRightSoft.
Completely freeware, and converts every type of video file I've tried.
Their tagline:
QUOTE SUPER © does for FREE what other encoders CAN'T do for money.

Only problem is no softsub support, but commercial products don't have it either.

could you give me a direct link?
does it have that lnfo in the middle about themselves afther the video is converted?
no offense but it sounds like a chinese product...lol.

Here just use this site of the program I use that I dl from it http://www.pspvideo9.com/ A good friend that I met on StarCraft a couple year back and now on my buddy list on Aim told me about this site. The program have a queue system just like the fansub.tv so you can convert the shows you want to put on your psp and let it convert the file into mp4 while you sleep and have it ready when you wake up.

... Alch, you should know better. Most of the programms I recommend are available via bt. If you don't like the trial version, uninstall it then download the pirated version and get it over with.

oh it work perfectly for me although when Im coverting things I cant do anything else. So im just guessing you might need more RAM or something since everything freezes when you use it.
I have dl other psp converter but I never test told yet so I cant recomend those.

i am currently using 3GP and it works fine but that also occasionally freezez; the same way; i don't think its the RAM; maybe its just my pc; my pc is old and quite weak to others: check here: http://boards.fansub.tv/index.php?showtopic=1539&st=60
i'll use my other pc (p4; and more space) and test if it works good or not with a bigger file size video if it freezez then the program must be the problem.

@Kansatsusha-sama: PSP Video 9 doesn't support the file type that i have mentioned in the topic name!

hmm.. i'd say try super over again. you can find it at videohelp.com. look under the how to --- convert, then look for it.

doesn't sony have any software to convert ANY type of video file into for play on PSP?

I'd pay money for it! As long as it is also vert fast!

it's not very likely, even when it's sony's product anyways. before the iPod video came out, even some programs can convert to things necessary to watch video on the portable. likewise, people just make it for other purposes (better quality, good bitrate, less choppy video, codec fitting, etc...).

but it is possible they did make an offical video converter. question is, will it convert certain types? likewise, you might as well try out everything suggested at videohelp.com.
