It is set to be a 24 episodes anime series.

Opening Theme: "Special Days" by Yuko Goto

Cast:

Jun Fukuyama as Kei Takishima
Yuko Goto as Hikari Hanazono
Ayahi Takagaki as Megumi Yamamoto
Hiro Shimono as Tadashi Karino
Hitomi Nabatame as Akira Tōdō
Kazuma Horie as Ryū Tsuji
Tsubasa Yonaga as Jun Yamamoto

Plot:

Hikari Hanazono, the main character, has always been second to Kei Takishima. When they were six years old, their pro-wrestling loving fathers introduced them to each other. Assuming that she was the best in wrestling, young Hikari challenged Kei to a wrestling match only to be thoroughly defeated by him.

Ever since that fateful incident, Hikari swore to beat Kei in school grades, a sporting event - anything. To do this she has enrolled in the same school as Kei since elementary. Now she attends Hakusenkan, an ultra elite school, that costs her carpenter father a lot of money. Hikari and Kei are the top two students in the school, with Kei holding firmly to that number one position. While Hikari considers Kei to be a rival and important friend, she is completely unaware that Kei loves her.

The story primarily focuses on Hikari and her constant attempts to defeat her one and only rival, Kei, and how she finds love in their rivalry.

(~from WIKI~)

I can't wait for this......the whole love rivalry is making me go crazy....I must read this manga.....ahhhhhh damn...I can't wait for April.

When I first saw the art to this series, I was really excited as it seemed like another typical love-romance series, but after reading the whole sports/wrestling part, I might be turned-off. Hopefully I'm not disappointed...

I read 4 pages of the first chapter of the manga and noticed that Hikaru looks like Haruhi from Ouran High. Actually it really does look alot of Ouran High. Is special A from the same people as Ouran?

This looks interesting, two excellent seiyuus, Jun Fukuyama and Yuko Goto.. thats enough to make me watch a few eps at least

Agreed! That enough is good of a reason.

Anyway, it's great that something like this would be coming out. It's been a long while since we saw a shoujo anime with comedy and romance. I am definitely looking forward to this.

lol because of you jcd, i ended up reading the manga. I was so curious about this show. I fell in love with the manga. I'm so excited to see this anime. I think it has a refreshing story. Can't wait to see this.

Same, and i loved the manga. Made me laugh hard at times. And i love Tadashi's expressions. Atm his my favorite character. It's a pity only 6 volumes out of 11/12 are scanlated.

Yeah same, i also thought that Takishima had blonde hair also. But brown is like wtf? When reading the manga i always thought of him as Tamaki Souh from Ouran High.

And is that Tadashi with Brown hair? I thought he would had black hair. I guess this is what you except from Manga to Anime.

they changed their looks a lot... i like them better in the manga but w/e at least there'll be an anime for those that dont read manga

I finally finished watching the first episode... Well, I honesly have to say that I have been looking forward to this show since I've been a fan of the manga. Unfortunately, I found it disappointing. It's really awful to compare them but it's easier because they're in the same genre and they are often compared to each other - but Ouran still takes the cake.

Let me rant:
What's up with the CLAMP-like art of large hands, anorexic bodies and long stick legs?
That Nii-san boulder was shown three times when it wasn't even funny in the first place.
The jokes sadly came out flat.
This is probably the ultimate let's introduce the characters episode I've ever seen.
For some reason, when Kei was making that speech about Hikari being such a hard worker in the school, I half expected someone to shout out "Yes, your highness!" because of the Lulu voice he used... ROFL (funny enough, I didn't feel this when I was watching -HOLiC)
And what's up with the doilies??? I've never seen so many doilies in my life (and I crochet)...

For some reason, something at the back of my head is making me wish that BONES did this. It would've probably be a trip. Well... what can you do, GONZO?

Well, I'm still gonna watch it. I love the manga. The only thing I'mm hoping for now for this show not to be so bad is for them to skip some chapters because there's about 5 volumes of them doing nothing but the rival thing. I hope they cover volume 6 when things really start to heat up XD

Well, turns out I wasn't disappointed at all in the episode. I'm glad the whole wrestling theme was not emphasized and really it's just about Hikari always coming in second
tongue.gif
Looks like I'll be following this series though the constant calling of "Rank Two" and the cinder blocks as well as the rank 6 hurting rank 5 constantly are starting to get repetitive already. I hope the producers don't keep on recycling the same old jokes throughout the series.

I haven't watched the episode yet.....I'm going to watch it once I'm at home but the whole concept reminds me of Kare Kano, which was an amazing manga and I guess a really good anime, that ended abruptly unfortunately.
wink.gif

I didn't think this was all that bad. the art is definately inferior to the manga, but it was a decent ep. Some of the humor felt a bit forced, but at other times it was decently funny. Give it some time, the anime does have some potential.

Wow ive been reading the manga and it was awesome. I like the nice flow of the story in here. I was hoping for an anime series of this, and here it is...
laugh.gif
Though i haven't watched the first epi so im gonna DL it now...
laugh.gif

I think the first episode was okay. The art kinda bugged me at first with the REALLY long and skinny legs, torso, and arms. But I got over it pretty quickly.
Some of the jokes fell short, but others had me chuckling so *shrug*

The cinder-block thing got old (and btw, biankita, it's ni-san, not nii-san. ni (に) is the number 2, nii is reference to a sibling
tongue.gif
), but I'm hopefull that it'll fade out rather quickly once the story gets moving (this IS romance genre after all...)

Haha, I too was like "huh? CLAMP" at first too because of the long skinny legs XD oh well
the first ep was cute, I felt sorry for Hikari though, being rubbed in that she's second everytime
tongue.gif
I expected that Takishima to stay arrogant like that through the bigges part of the season though, he confessed is true feelings about how awesome Hikari was sooner than I though XD
I think I'll be watching this season. At least it's not that much about wrestling as the descriptions would say!

Hehehe .... it look like I have been caught watching some kind shoujo again. Some group of student with uber result in each exam, sport and sort of .... still they are human anyway.

Well, this one kind of nice even involving with this group of people mean bizarre experience. The not so honest to yourself vibe again .... let count how many tsundere moment will we get this time.

Excellent review of the first episode biankita

Just about everything that you said in your post is what I was thinking while watching. The drawing style of the characters is just plain and simply terrible. Okay so I've watched badly drawn animes before I can get pass that. Then you have the issue where the jokes seemed forced. Many objects falling from the sky to crush the anime character when they have been insulted or taken a back. That must have happened like 10-15 times maybe who knows I lost count. A couple of times an episode and it's comic genius, 5 or more and now your just pushing it lol.

I have to admit I thought that as well. He started off so arrogant but out of nowhere warmed up to her I thought that was a bit odd. Though it is a change of pace from most animes where the girl has to wait for a while before the lead male warms up to her. So I won't hate since they decided to step outside the norm in this case.

It's still too early to rule this anime off my list right now. The Hikari X Kei combination may actually prove be a strong and entertaining pairing but initially I have my doubts.
