In the age of the Warring Countries, Japan was fragmented in semi-independent provinces, governed by feudal lords or daimyo, who confronted each other in an endless struggle for power. Ambitious daimyos from every corner of the Archipelago had shouted their battle cry. They were Takeda Shingen from Kai, Sanada Yukimura, Uesugi Kenshin from Echigo, Azai Nagamasa from Omi, Tokugawa Ieyasu from Mikawa, and many more...

Those were days of unrest and chaos. As war spread throughout the country, the map of power underwent rapid and dramatic changes.
In this never-ending conflict, one man finally seemed to be just one step from establishing total control over the country. He was the lord of Owari, the Sixth Heavenly Devil King. His name was Oda Nobunaga.

But now, a young general clad in azure makes his unexpected appearance in this confused scenario, heading a huge army of cavalrymen from the Northern provinces.
He is known as Date Masamune, the One-Eyed Dragon.
And he is coming for Oda Nobunaga's head, and for ultimate supremacy!

My Thoughts:

An incentive to get into the 1st season, which I somehow didn't watch.

I didn't watch S1 either... so if I ever get around to that I may give this a try... although the overdone action kinda blew me off from even starting on the series.

Season 1 was just great action so Im defenitely watching this.

I didn't finish season 1, mostly because the versions released wouldn't play on my computer. I will try to finish it soon so I can watch season 2. Yeah the action scenes are overly exaggerated, but thats part of the fun.

Sengoku Basara 2 starts off an essentially new story. So far you don't really need to have season 1 to understand the events in season 2 though it helps so that you don't get surprised by the little things thus far. The comedy is still there and the over-exaggerated action scenes are still around as well. As for a plot, without Wakamoto voicing a villain, it just doesn't feel right. The new antagonist warlord sounds lame and his "sidekick" is even worse.

Animation is roughly the same as it was a year ago from the first season. The music is not as good sadly even though the OP is now done by T.M. Revolution instead of abingdon boys school (same vocalist though). The inserts and bgm have been very nice thus far though...including an unexpected May'n thrown in.

Character development? What character development? You may want to watch Tono to Issho for that. This show is for the laughs and gar. If you don't like either or you didn't enjoy season 1, this is not the show for you.

Like with the first season of Sengoku Basara, I'm going to be a bit reserved about my judgment for this show as it can tip either way, though I am expecting a turn around at some point in time.

Preliminary Expectation: High
Preliminary Score: 7/10

Already watched the first episode. Considering most of the characters are fangirl bait, this show never fails to be so over the top GARSOME.

Anybody played the games? I'm wondering if I should play them. Of course without the same VAs it just won't do.

Yes I have. It's basically dynasty warriors style although a bit more restricted in terms of movement. This basically determines whether you will like it or not as it is mostly a beat'em up game. The voices in the Japanese ones are the same. Don't know if the English one that was released for the PS2 (titled Devil Kings) was dubbed or not, probably dubbed though.

Dagnammit. Too bad if it's dubbed and there's probably a good chance too. Gonna borrow a copy first instead so I don't end up regretting having bought one. Hopefully there'll be a language option for the voices like in some Castlevania games.

Oh there is already a thread and I even posted here oO So why did the search find nothing when I put Sengoku in it oO

The series started right in the middle of the action. It was great to see all the characters battling it out in that way over-the-top way.

The series does just what the first season did, a lot of action and gar. And even the obvious "Yukimura"-"Oyakata-sama" screams and Yukimuras beatings by Taked are there again ^^

But like Kit said the new villain isnt as great as Oda was. Except for his body, I mean this guy is probably as big as that Mecha-dude in season 1.
And after ep 1 I really thought that Ninbei would defenitely betray Hideyoshi like Mitsuhide did with Nobunaga, but maybe successfully. But after ep 2 its now pretty clear that he is loyal.

Overall its as great as the first season.

Glad to see S2 kicked off even stronger than S1, but I can't avoid lamenting the absence of Wakamoto in his role of Nobunaga who was just plain awesome in the previous season. Good thing in the second season seems to be some character development (Sanada actually growing up as a character and learning some wisdom/sense of responsibility from his Oyakata-sama, etc) and certain unexpected turns. Didn't expect that Date will be in such a rough spot so soon, but oh boy was it glorious to see him actually get pissed off and become serious for a change. WAR DANCE moment cemented my eagerness to keep watching it.

Definitely watching.

Seems like Hideyoshis, unlike Odas, plans are already failing.

The battle between Keiji and Toshi was great. I mean they blocked the sword and trident with their bare muscles. Awesome ^^

So they are bringin back Ichi, that cant mean good things.

Speaking of Oda....based on the preview for the next episode, stuff/characters that were thought to never return from season 1 are returning?

I don't like the whole ghost thing if that's what they're going to play on. Supernatural (aside from the cool effect attacks) should stay out of the show...

i just found out something surprising. Did you know most shogun/samurai is gay? for example nobunaga X ranmaru. they has this tradition where a senior old dude will have one young gay partner. knowing this kinda feel weird watching this.....

Their wives also had female "pillow friends". For talking late, doing nails and all that. While their husbands were away.

Seems like this series disappeared into thin air on this site, but I guess it should be no surprise that it did. Anyways, after a long delay, Sengoku Basara 2 concludes.

So what was difference between Sengoku Basara 1 and 2? Well the one thing that stood out like a sore thumb was Sengoku Basara 2 had way too much dialogue. The show was literally a block of text and rambling that wouldn't end. Even for an action show, the action was far too little. The show really went in a roundabout way to defeat Toyotomi and the extensive dialogue only made the show more boring. In addition, Toyotomi's character was really poor. He only relied on his strategist to really plan everything out for him. In essence he himself was a puppet. As such, the story is not as deep as the first series and as an antagonist, Toyotomi fails completely in comparison to Nobunaga. To be honest, I'm still confused as to why they brought one of Nobunaga's relative back into the series when she only showed up for that one episode. All in all, the show didn't feel very satisfying. Lack of "epic" action, too much unnecessary dialogue, filler-like episodes, etc... If anything the sequel pretty much should not have existed.

The one good aspect of this show, however, is to see how Date and Yukimura grow as characters when they are stripped of people they usually depended on, in this case Kojuro and Takeda respectively. The show became more of a "coming of age" story than anything else. It was definitely nice to see some individual character development after the huge lack in the first series.

Nevertheless, the announcement of a Sengoku Basara movie does not amuse me. While I like the franchise, the result of season 2 already disappointed me enough. Unless the movie settles the events in the Warring Era, which I doubt it will, my expectation of the movie remains rather low. There's nothing more to animate and the fact that the staff plans to prepare a plot that is "set after season 2" irritates me more.

Preliminary Score: 7/10
Final Score: 6/10

Just watched the Movie "The Last Party" and it wasa great treat. The best part of this franchise. It had all it had to have, tough guys, crazy fights and a sh*tload of cool talk. And it had the one thing that was missing in the second season, Oda Nobunaga.

It was good seeing how Ieyasu has manned up after beeing nothing more than a little, whiny puppet in the first season and only featured as a cameo in the second season.

Is it just me or was the Father really Mitsuhide? It was never said but it just had to be him, cant think of it otherwise.

Like I said the movie was the best part of the franchise and I would love to see more of it.
9/10 from me.
