Synopsis: The show's story revolves around Yuuri Katsuki, who carried all of Japan's hopes on his shoulders to win at the Gran Prix Finale ice skating competition, but suffered a crushing defeat. He returns home to Kyushu and half feels like he wants to retire, and half feels like he wants to continue ice skating. With those mixed feelings swirling inside him, he confines himself inside his parents house. Suddenly the five-time consecutive world championship ice skater Viktor Nikiforov appears before him, and along with him is Yuri Plisetsky, a young Russian figure skater who is already defeating his seniors. Viktor and both Yuris take up the challenge on an unprecedented Gran Prix series.

Yuri!!! on Ice sports anime... haven't seen on on the ice, otherwise, it sounds like the usual competition thing.
wasn't sure to see a fujoshi bait weekly aside KH,NM but ep'2 convinced me

It's just a series with a straightforward development, nothing bad, nothing outstanding. Apart from the choreography of course!!

That and this series a huge hit for BL artists... Trust me... I have seen too much...

QUOTE (Masich @ Nov 8 2016,8:51 PM)Trust me... I have seen too muchI can (yet I don't want to) imagine how many BL stuff since today, now that GP began with more baiting at the China Cup... But besides that i agree on how its choreography stands out, but i would prefer female skating with Mila as main

most likely BL pics increased after Victor kisses(?) Yuri previously, but yes aside this up to ep.8 its skating got better... will be fun to watch both Yuris fight now coached by Yakov in grand prix final, Georgi too (i think he won as hilarious)^_^

Ok, finally started this one.... dubbed version, tried the sub first, but in 1st ep at the chalkboard, it got too fast, so I switched to the dub which I like better I think, don't care to go back and check the difference.
That said the use of colors in the animation really makes it 'pop' rather nicely... and the way the story is written is setup fast and very smoothly... using the other characters to explain the MC to they older Russian guy that decided to go coach our MC after seeing him copy his routine in a video that went viral... That is ridiculous, but this is a comedy, so  ... It's just so ridiculous that it's easier to ignore the obvious thing that would not and never does happen... definitely reminds you that this is a comedy. Even the 'fatso' of our MC who puts on some weight that everyone mentions... then when his shirt is lifted, he seems really fat... which threw me off.... I thought he really did put on that weight, until you see him later on the ice and it looks like he put on maybe 5 lbs... which is still important at that level of competition... so I thought maybe it's just more comic crap... maybe that shirt lift was chibi? that threw me off for a bit... but after they continue with it, it's easier to see the comedy they are going for, and that type of thing wasn't repeated.

Character setup, as I said, was really well done.... adding the dramatic base to the story that then mostly goes comedy at this point... I only finished ep 3 at this point, so any BL stuff hasn't factored in yet to repel me watching this, not into any BL stuff at all... nice variance in the characters as well.... though the two Russians coming suddenly to Japan is straight comedy and totally not realistic... took me a while to get over that.

So far, the choreography is nice, but nothing special... though I have to admit it'd be nice to see this in Ballroom... but isn't that a budget issue? to make this smoother, doesn't it require more in-betweens or whatever they call it? and doesn't come down to money for the most part?

Music is ok so far.. I like the use of photos of the various characters in the EP... really like the use of color in this work.... and the animation looks 'full'... reminds me of Makoto Shinkai's stuff... as well as other works like Euphorium!

Ok, finished it... the 'gay' aspect wasn't much, so it didn't bother me... other than the real 'gay' skater, these guys seem rather tame in that regard, assuming they're 'gay', because it isn't really said, rather assumed, except that one theatrically 'gay' guy.... our MC could be anything... but the 'friendship' rings did sort of point that out, if he was 'confused' or 'in the closet'... but it still doesn't excuse the simple minded plotline that has the top pro skater deciding to come to Japan to teach our MC.... and now, at the end of the cour, he decides to return to competition against them because two scored higher in comps than he ever did? Rather ridiculous the whole thing... but it's a comedy and entertaining.... after those first few eps, the show settled into its formula... it was informative of the sport which I like, as I'd rather learn something while being entertained.

Personally, the choreography was nice, but it didn't seem anything special to me by the end of the cour... I kept waiting for that great stuff others mentioned, but never saw it.... but it's nice to see, and it was the same each time, due to it being the same short/long or freeskate routine each competition, so they started showing the other competitors routines as well.... sort like like in Ballroom when they focused on others, mostly the old style couple. On top of my finding the routines rather ok... I had a problem with the look or design of the characters when they did their routines... the body's seemed different than they usually did... the torso section seemed odd.... legs being overly long could be a style element, but this seemed to only show up in these routines... a different person drawing them I have to assume... the torso section seemed misappropriated.... can't think of a good way to describe it... wasn't just our MC but a few of them... rather odd.... and just during the routines... I don't think it was all of them.. .don't remember. I just remember that the torso looked a little distorted... odd.

Otherwise, nice comedy sports anime. Heard they used 2x? number of animators to do those choreography scenes... I'd imagine that those Disney/Pixel films use 4x or 10x as many and probably 10 to 20x the amount of money? To get rid of that 'stilted' aspect... never thought of how much work it entails... no wonder Disney went all digital, but isn't everyone these days?
