Title: Shingeki no Bahamut: Genesis
Genre: Action, Drama, Comedy, Fantasy, ECCHI
Premier: October 2014
Animation Studio: MAPPA
Director: Keiichi Satou
Original Creator: Cygames
Official Website:

Plot:
Based on the online card game by Cygames....yup, it's based off a mobile phone game.

Mistarcia is a magical world where humans, gods, and demons mingle together. In the past, the black-and-silver winged Bahamut has threatened to destroy the land, but humans, gods, and demons overcame their differences to fight together and seal its power. The key to that seal was split in two, one half given to the gods and the other to demons, so that they would never be united and Bahamut never released. Now, two thousand years later, the world is in an era of peace—until the day a human woman steals the gods' half of the key.

Well this genuinely surprised me in a VERY good way.
  • BRILLIANT animation quality. VERY good way they blend CG into animation
  • Chock full of western mythology(I counted Norse, Roman, Greek and Arabian so far) set in what looks to be a mix of Roman(that water aqueduct and roman city wheels, etc) and Norse world settings
  • Atypical rogue-ish main character, who does NOT look like bishonen, is NOT emo and has no time for all the pesky "honorable" things. Reminds me of a mix of Han Solo, Jack Sparrow, Indiana Jones and Spike from Cowboy Bebop.
  • Mature and non-moe character designs
  • Very badass female lead
  • Frantic and intense world building that reminds of Pirates of Caribbean
  • Hilarious comedy moments and over-the-top action

For me this is a sleeper hit of the season.

I just started watching and I'm being continually blown away by how good this series is. As Anybody pointed out, the animation is just spectacular, MAPPA have really outdone themselves.

Amira is really cute and Favaro is a sly bastard that I'm rooting for despite his questionable actions.

On to episode 03 now and I'll probably catch up by the end of the night.

I've caught up to episode 05 and I quite like Rita being part of the team, I'm not sure if she will remain "reanimated" for the entire series, she will either turn into dust or given another chance to be a human again since she has formed a bond with Kaisar, who isn't completely invested in it like she is. She says she's following him because she has nothing else to do and then sort of "forces" Favaro to rescue them with her.

The ending shot of episode 05 gives me the cause to speculate that Jeanne's right-hand man is Amira's father and he possibly had a relationship with a female demon.

This show is very enjoyable.

This is probably one of the best and most entertaining show this season. It plays more like a western fantasy adventure story than the type of stories we typically see in anime. And the fact that it all spawned from a mobile phone card game is incredible. Can't say anyone would expect something this good from the show before it started airing and if they say they knew it would be as good as it is now, they are lying.

Yeah, when I was researching this anime before it aired, I barely had any real info on it. I updated the first post yesterday with an actual synopsis. I really didn't have much expectations for it because it was based on a "mobile game", only the art was kinda interesting....this anime is almost like "Never judge a book by it's cover" in terms of origins.

Arima's seiyuu has barely had many roles and this is her first one as a main character, I quite like her because her voice reminds me of another seiyuu (the name escapes me though).

Shingeki no Bahamut: Manaria Friends Hmmm... 1/2 human, half dragon? OUCH! There are certain images I never want in my head! One of them is getting "intimate" with a partner who is covered in sharp, pointy SCALES! That princess is a miracle just for surviving being a half-breed!
