when you save a file (any file) from the internet, a dialog box appear that says "save" or "open" file right?! if you chose the save file option, a window will appear that shows the progress/status of file being save (1% -> 100%). after the file is saved there should be a dialog box that says "open folder" or "open file", my computer used to say these, but all of a sudden this message doesnt show up! can anyone help me. i tried searching google but didnt get any answers.

i want that message that says "open folder/file" to show up after downloading a file off the internet.

i tried system restore, but still the same. i got windows xp sp3.
i tired also going to the folder option, and check the one that says "confirm open after download" , but its still the same.

i just want that meassage/dialog box to appear that says "open folder/file" after i download a file from the internet (any file like .rar, .jpg etc.).

someone must have went on your comp and click on dont show me this message again when they dled something lol...XD all i could say right now u need to configure it somewhere...busy with something so i cant do a little researching =3

Is this Internet Explorer? Firefox?

There's probably a setting somewhere. I just don't have time to go look right now. Just flipping through the options you should find it.

If not, you can usually reset all notification messages somewhere in the options. But it's preferable to see if there's a specific option for it first.

Personally I use Firefox + Flashgot Add-on + Flashget download manager, so I'm not too familiar with browsers' built downloading functions.

Well if you're d/l a big file ther eshould be a check box on saying what should be done when the d/l is completed. That way you could check/uncheck siad box so you could let it sit there when it's done d/l'ing.

It would help if you told us what browser you are using at least. I know in firefox you can right click on the download and tell it to open the folder or open the file. As far as I know it can't do it automatically. Oh wait yes it can

I'm guessing you are using internet explorer and if so go to tools -> internet options -> advanced -> check "notify when downloads complete" at the bottom of the browsing section.

Edit:
in firefox check the tools -> options -> applications section. That tells it what to do with the file you are trying to access. you can set it to do whatever you want depending on file type.

sorry i forgot to specify my browser. its internet explorer 6. i was thinking the message i posted was missing some info but dont know what it was. lol. guess it was the browser. anyways didnt expect to get a response quickly. thank you for all those who reply. i appreciate it very much. kinda desparate here.

ok so...

im the only one using this computer. also i have a good antivirus called kaspersky. but it was wierd that this happen all of a sudden, without warning like a virus or a spyware or something. maybe updates from windows cause this but i doubt it.

anyways, i was looking for solutions under folder options and internet options... but looks like i miss the one that you pointed out langes01x, i was looking for that. ill try to see if it works. and if it does ill edit this reply. but if not ill bump this topic again.

also i did try to download a big file so i can put a check mark on that. but theres already a check mark on that (first) dialog box, the one that ask you to "save " or "open" file. my concern is the message box that comes out next, After you finished downloading. the dialog box thats gonna ask, "open folder/file". that one.

ill try it in a minute if langes01x's solution was right. hopefully.

EDIT: it works!!! thanks everybody. especially langes01x!!! thank you~ finally, and everything is back to normal again...

you can lock this topic now.
