Okay First off, you'd be asking what's Falcom, Its a Game company of course in Japan. Strongly dedicated in making RPGs. Legend of Heroes and Ys are their Known titles.

They have also created various RPGs other than those two. Like Zwei or Gurumin although both are quite unheard of in the english community unless you are a Falcom Fan.

Most of their Titles are now ported to PSP as they are a Niche company dedicated to RPGs, they may not be big as Square Enix but in MY sole opinion they KNOW what they are doing in their games. It's been a long time since I thoroughly enjoyed RPGs not from the Visual Novel category.

Most of the games they did were specifically for PCs but since PSP is quite still a hit in japan and some eastern countries such as mine. Although recently they DID port Legend of Heroes: Zero no Kiseki to PC by a chinese publisher

Either way Back to their Flagship Titles Ys and Legend Of heroes (Eiyuu Densetsu)

---------------------

Ys features the adventures of Adol Christin, a red-haired young man with a zest for adventure and an uncanny knack for being in the right place at the right time. Gameplay usually revolves around Adol; though his comrade, Dogi, is a frequent companion in his travels. Thus far, Adol has visited the regions of Esteria, Celceta, Felghana, Xandria, the Canaan Islands, and Altago.

It is also one of the few early jRPGs to be Action oriented not turn-based and All of the games are canonical to each other, even some characters from a previous game may reoccur.

Now that I think about it Adol may be the inspiration for Rance
tongue.gif
character design-wise and their knack for getting dragged into events, minus the ero-parts though xD.

---------------------

Legend of Heroes on the other hand are more Story oriented and contains lots of text to point it resembles Visual Novels. Depending on which Saga its part of, the games are canonical.

Legend of Heroes used to be known as Dragon Slayer. The First two were Dragon slayer: Legend of Heroes and Dragon Slayer: Legend of Heroes II. LoH III onwards dropped their association with the Dragon Slayer Saga.

So far the Legend of Heroes contains 2 important Saga(Although both are not Connected). First to take note of is.

The Gagharv Trilogy saga.

LoH III : Prophecy of The Moonlight Witch.
LoH IV: Tears of Vermillion (A prequel, 56 Years before LoH III)
LoH V: Song of the Ocean. (Another prequel, 49 Years before LoH III. 7 Years After LoH IV)

Take note the Localization (and A VERY BAD ONE AT THAT) by Namco Bandai games has numbered them incorrectly as LoH II: Prophecy of the Moonlight Witch. Kinda the same as Final Fantasy IV being named as FF I in NA.

Note also the the game was poorly translated by Namco Bandai. They also took the Japanese Songed OPs as the PSP port of LoH III was a remastering I think.

In My Opinion do not touch the Gagharv Trilogy Done by Namco Bandai. The Strength of LoH is its Interconnected Storylines within Each Saga. You may be disappointed in Playing it, not to mention the gameplay for the games isn't really defining as it IS an old Game only reported. Think of Visual Novels were the text was done by google translator...

Take note also I forgot the site but I remember a Fansite solely dedicated to Legend of heroes decided on Translating the Gagharv Trilogy on PC I forgot the site and I haven't found it yet. Cross your fingers on me finding it and them not Dropping or Stalled it.

The 2nd Saga is the Trails saga.

LoH IV:Sora no Kiseki: First Chapter
Sora no Kiseki: Second Chapter
Sora no Kiseki: Third Chapter

LoH : Zero no Kiseki
LoH : Ao no Kiseki

While Legend of Heroes VI was splitted up into 3 chapters. Second Chapter Being the Longest (2 UMDs).

LoH Zero no Kiseki and Ao no Kiseki ARE Direct Sequels from LoH VI. Both games are unnumbered. As the game has been recently new and has no Localization. Reliable Information is hard to comeby about the game.

All that is known is that the Sequels Takes place sometime after Sora no Kiseki and takes place in a neighboring country the Calvard Republic where as in Sora no Kiseki took place in Liberl Kingdom both countries and on the same continent and are beside each other. (Based on the First Chapter Calvard and Liberl are Allies). Also I've Heard that some of the Characters from Sora no kiseki DO appear here so it means its some Years After the Original Series as the Futuristic setting of the game from the trailers may fool you that its way off into the future.

The First Chapter was Localized by Xseed games, and of course with SUPERB quality. As Xseed has entered partnership with Falcom for their games :3.

However, Although Sora no Kiseki: Second Chapter IS being translated, there are doubts on it being released sooner beccause of the NGP problem. As NGP uses NO UMDs this has created problems for some stuff since SC has 2 UMDs and would require you to switch between the two back and fort has been problematic converting it to data. Still We can expect it to released and hope for the best as Xseed has so far has no disappointments yet. Source: Xseed Forums

Wow there Lavi-san
ohmy.gif
Epic thread for some epic games from an epic company
biggrin.gif

Well I haven't played much but Y's and now Sora no Kiseki but was already thinking of checking out some older Legend of Heroes games.
Sadly with Sora no Kiseki, couldnt play much since had exams
sad.gif
(feels so much better now that they done
cool.gif
) so will have to catch up, since I bet you are pretty far in
ph34r.gif
. Other than that I'll be happy to join in to this lounge
laugh.gif

Will add more a tad bit later, since right now, need some more sleep after last two weeks :C
One question though, can someone give me some Sora no Kiseki music links? Cant get my game to give me some music
dry.gif
so was wondering if I could jsut put some on the background via a player at least.

P.S. I'm taking that userbar
smile.gif

I'm supprised that you did post up that one guy who has translated most of the Ys Series for the PC here. I mean pretty much the series started on the PC and then shifted over to the game consoles and/or hand-helds.

In any case I'm supprised that you didmention the Zwei!! Series here. Granted you pretty much got the core series that made this group I see here though. In any case the way thier graphics have improved I'm kind of supprised that they are pretty much the top tier that if they went into the ero ero scene they'd still be considered top tier at least.
tongue.gif

In any case I've played Ys I&II:Complete, Ys: Oath of Felgahana (Ys III : Wonderer from the Ys redone), and a bit of Ys VI which was the only one on the PS2 that I've tired out.

Although I kind of want to try my had at either Zwei!! or the LoH Series.

sad.gif
Crap I just got fatigued after I got home yesterday, I still feel woozy today so I'll keep my stay here quick for now...

@Nioki-san You should really try out the Ys Series most PSP ports are done by Xseed anyways so expect quality and most of them are remastered. I already finished Sora no Kiseki about the same time I made this thread. Xseed really did a good job about it, they even kept the preview for the Second Chapter all JP songs intact unlike a certain N***o here, that rapes even their own Tales series.

Anyways the ending was nicely done, although it was one hell oh a coc- I mean Cliffhanger. If you want though all I can say is the game's story had a makings of a whodunnit
tongue.gif
take a guess who's the detective.

Once I recover I may give you links to OST of Sora no Kiseki, Both the original and Super Arrange Versions. You know if you actually bought the premium edition of it (at least to show support
tongue.gif
) you'd get a musical selection CD 39 songs out of the original 50 I think?? They were handpicked on which were the best
tongue.gif
.

@Wolfie-san Was he the guy who did it? I think it was a Different guy. I still remember his site. Eidenyaku is more of LoH though. The guy who translated most of the Ys series, while Im greatly grateful for his efforts is a bit of an a**, really.

Other than Zweii!!, Brandish is also one of their known titles I believe which is quite old already (early 90s I believe)

And I do agree that Falcom's games has a making for ero ero company. I mean Sora no Kiseki had lots of those moments
tongue.gif
P and Considering Adol's popularity with the women
rolleyes.gif

Im surprised you already played up already Up to Ys III or IV if you may PC versions by the way? But To be honest Im more of a LoH-fan, so far I've only played Ys 7. Either way though Once I buy the game copy for PSP for Ys III I'll maybe DL ir on PC as I want to see the JP Voice
tongue.gif
.

I was suprised back then that the guys who did Ys and Sora no Kiseki was the same. Thats why I was thrilled when Ys 7 had a localization. (I was unaware of the Fan-translation then) well from then on I became a Falcom-fan.

Too bad Zwei!! isn't translated but I doubt that's gonna stop you from playing it though personally I also want to.

You know when you say Brandish I'm now reminded of this certain ero ero doujin series that goes by that same name mind you. Although grated I'm sure it's not the same thing here. It goes to show you how much I have my mind in the gutter though.
laugh.gif

If I remeber correctly most of the PC Ys series was translated by NightWolve and Deuce. In any case I only know of it because the guy who gave me the Ys I&II Complete game also gave me the patch for it as well. So that's all the info that I can remeber of course.

Well I've only played my way through the first 3 Ys games since Oath in Felgehana in the updated version of 3 as of late. Although there is the PSP version done by XSeed along with a few of the other Ys games. Although only one of them kind of uses the story setup that Final Fnatsay VI did at certain points to were you could pick which story to do before completing the game. Also, Adol isn't invoved unless you use cheat codes to bring him in though.
tongue.gif

I think this one was Ys 7 or something like that.
unsure.gif

Here's the OST for Sora no Kiseki, Super arrange albums included. Sorry for the loooonggg delay Nioki-san but my MidTerm week was hectic, I got fatigued twice.

Disc 2 Part 1
Disc 2 Part 2

@Wolfie-san Mine is in the gutter always
tongue.gif
though Im not familiar with that doujin series.... Might as well take a look at it :ppp

I think Ys 7 wasn't like that, I know and Played FF6 and Ys7. Ys7 wasnt similar to that o_O maybe its the Ys 5 or 6 I think there's even a spin-off game/not Canonical.

Kinda like with the Rance Series where there is a branch off that does not continues.

Sigh Bad news... for me
sad.gif
Looks like SC is troublesome no thanks to PSP Vita and PSP Go. It seems Im not really familiar with the mainstream news in the gaming community so feel free to correct me. Anyways since they mentioned in the Xseed forums UMDs are getting phased out as the "Digital Versions" are being favorable.

The problem is my country is wayyy late into these stuffs and you think europe has it bad. It seems only the Playstation franchise was only deemed "Official" in this country LAST YEAR. We dont even have an official PSN server too boot and with the "New Next-gen" being available its quite troublesome as I believe Vita does not use UMD?. I can't even download the DLC for God Eater Burst which I bought officially. Now they want to digitalize the Trails series GREAT.....
mad.gif

Now there's a possible silver lining is that Falcom did release games in the PC. Only recently they reported Zero no Kiseki back into the PC. This may be another route for the Localization of the Falcom games. Meaning We may see ports of the SnK Series onto PC problem is you have to replay the First Chapter if you want the "Continuity" of the Save files. Not that I mind replaying FC.

Personally I prefer Hard Copies. I like to have the Bonus-stuff, Posters, Musical selection, Booklet. I've never been a fan of Digital Copies.

Agree with Lavi-san here, even though digital copies are kinda handy in a sence, but I prefer having hard ones jsut due to the fact, that I can brag about them
blink.gif

Plus most hard copies nowadays have digital doubling, so as soon as you install, you have it on steam/blizzard/wherever.
Also digital copies are not always easy to get at some countries

Well, before buying anything, I need to buy a PSP
rolleyes.gif

As for support, I gladly support companies that give out quality games, that I liked, yay for piracy in that sense.
Piracy is still an issue in my country, though it has both negative aspects and positive ones:
(+) I can check out things before buying licensed\official versions
(--) Games come here kinda slow (1-2 weeks after say Russia), we don't have specialized (totally legal) game shops, and hence we don't have direct shipping of products from the official distributors.
dry.gif

What I also hate is that we get Russian localized games, and I can't get EN versions (my preferred choice) unless I order it from Amazon or wherever that accepts soething but paypal ( Ordering is a hassle as well since things get delivered to local customs office... ) So I'm kinda sad.
Hope when I get done with Uni, I'll manage to go study somewhere else outside of the country.

True Digi-copies are more handy but at least that's for well developed countries, Not everyone can afford to have internet 24/7 or accessibility to it. Sure people like me have decent access, but that's not the same for everyone. Some people here are able to play games even with internet because of hard copies, for internet use they just visit local comp shops. Again the persistence of Legality, My country is pretty Minor, we get it hard much more than Europe has. We are only able to get latest games because Shops here Import from neighboring countries. Like I said We dont even have An official PSN server, And PSN does not allow you to con your country >_> Credit Cards here are rare, Even in the upper class CCs aren't that heavily popular.

The silver lining though is that the "internet" is a trend here and has been booming ever since it was available.

Another problem with digi copies is that it can be complicated for some people, you can be assured once Vita launches the FAQ thread for Sony will be bound with questions. Though most gamers have decent knowledge of a comp I doubt that will not be the same for Casual gamers or some people just getting into games.
dry.gif

But yeah having hard copies can be a decent Bragging right too
tongue.gif
and If you have a Collector complex it helps
wink.gif

Lol Buying PSP is easy, the limited editions can be tricky
tongue.gif

Though I agree with you Only a few shops here Allow Renting, Secondly Im not a fan of renting especially you may damage it. I always hated borrowing things, I like it more when whatever it is, is 100% mine, that way Im not liable for whatever I do with it since well... Im the owner
tongue.gif
.

Piracy here... Well... Im not sure if you're familiar but Philippines is like the Tortuga in PoTC in terms of well... Piracy
tongue.gif
of course not in the maritime sense
laugh.gif
I heard from one of my profs that the international anti-piracy came to visit once, well let's just say at LEAST they tried to their best
tongue.gif

You'd just have to walk to some market place or even commercial areas you'd bound to see the latest movie in Pirated form selling it for a cheap price
huh.gif
You'd even see "5 PSP Games for 200 Pesos" (200 Pesos = 5 Dollars) LOL but More or less at least my generation when it comes to being a fan and a supporter DO buy the Legal stuff.

And Shipment too is troublesome... Most Shipping require you to have a credit card though I believe you can have one even w/o C-cards in other cases. Even though you may get past that problem, another big problem is the Shipping itself. I remember one of my relatives sent me a Tennis racquet some 4 yrs ago, Now Its nowhere to be found >_>. You can have the quality Shippers like Fed Ex or DHL and the likes... but their prices here can make you cry.

Personally I do plan on moving to japan
laugh.gif
that way Im close to the Golden Land. The Language... I wouldn't have to worry about that... My country is Infamous for Overseas Foreign Workers. Were like the 2nd chinese already, you can find Us almost EVERYWHERE
tongue.gif
. Japan is a popular destination for good or for worse so Language teaching programs are fairly common here. The Japanese embassy even sponsors a lot of them I think.

Yeah but isn't digital copies pretty much saying "Pirate us, please." Personally I prefer the hard copy since it shows that I am supporting the industy with my own funds. Besides I was planning on getting a PSP since the games they have for it as of now. Also, I do know that they do have some of the Ys Series games and I think the Zwei! Series as well if I remember correctly though.

Anyway, as for psp's. I think there were different versions of it, that go with diff games or something? Anywhere I can find out about that?
tongue.gif

So that I don't get stuck with the games that don't interest me. But stuck with All the games mentioned in this thread ^^

I've only played PC versions of the games that are (being) translated to English, which means Ys 1&2 Complete, VI, Felghana and Origin. Origin's probably my favourite because of the setting and character variety. Also Xanadu NEXT, nobody ever mentions that one and it's great. Like a mix between Ys and Diablo.

Also, enter shameless self-promoting: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9PmrOw84pb8

QUOTE Ys and Diablo mix? Will have to check it out.

Yeah, action is kind of like past-Ark Ys, with controls and inventory management more like Diablo (though not so much lootfest). Oh! Completely forgot, it also has puzzles.

A few guys over at the ALOY Forum have been working on a translation patch for a while now, saw a message promising a "beta" release recently. The game's quite playable without if you don't mind missing out on the story, though.

OH MY F*CKING GOD FALCOM HAS KNOW OFFICIALLY REMADE YS IV

Whats even more awesome is that In the Timeline of Ys, Ys IV comes first before Ys III so the events in Ys IV is Preceeded by Ys II.

Another thing is that There was never any actual Official Ys IV Made by Falcom. That's why If you do research there are two Ys IV (Mask of the Sun and Dawn of Ys) so technically this was one of the most blurry parts in the YS saga.

Now we will finally have a True Canon Version part of the Saga and even better yet in badass form. The Battle System would be reminiscent of YS 7's Party System
Im somewhat disappointed though we wont get to see any more Danmaku-esque battles which were present in Ys I, II and III
tongue.gif

Its Called Ys - Celceta, Sea of Trees (Ys IV) and would be for the PSP VITA. It's Official Im Getting that DAMNED THING.

Oh God...! After Seeing this I'm throwing money at the screen as well! BUT STILL NOTHING HAPPENS! HOWS IT ON YOUR SIDE?

rly though awesome stuff... makes me want to go get 'zero no kiseki' and play it.. esp after i've finished 'sora no kiseki' which pretty much was the food of the month for me ~.~ talk about awesome games...

Also.. was wondering about something... I saw this in a Wikipedia article: "(2010) Ys vs. Sora no Kiseki: Alternative Saga" Whats that all about? Sounds interesting
ohmy.gif

@Nioki DAMN NOTHING IS STILL HAPPENING I'VE THROWN MY WALLET AND MY PANTS TOO, IM TRYING TO GIVE MY SOUL TOO BUT NOTHINGS IS HAPPENINGGGGGG!!!!!...........

Btw
tongue.gif
Although The Zero no Kiseki and Ao no Kiseki is seperated from the Trails series, It IS still connected so while you may haven't played the original Trails in the Sky series, Zero and Ao can stand on its own. Of course the Depth and Impact of the Game wouldn't be As BIG if you had not played the previous series its spin-offed from.

PS: Zero and Ao takes place 10 Years after Sora no kiseki, as per seen the trailer you can see much of the old characters present there which gives depth
tongue.gif
Olivier FTW!! One of the Best Characters IMO xD

QUOTE "(2010) Ys vs. Sora no Kiseki: Alternative Saga"

I think I already mentioned this one? Its practically a mash up of Falcom's Characters from their Flagship games It has basically Adol, Estelle, Joshua, Dogi, etc. etc. Just Think of SE's Dissidia or Namco's Tales VS
