My Thoughts:
The animation is absolutely top notch, really beautiful as you would expect from Production I.G. The cast is also excellent and the music, much of it by Supercell, is outstanding. With all those elements in place that leaves one to wonder about the quality of the story. And well, it's just too early to tell with that. The plot itself is nothing you haven't seen before but good things could be made from it. I'd say the episode moved along at a nice pace and there is a solid foundation to work with, but do they have the ability to turn that into something that can be compelling over 22 episodes? If not, it's going to end up being another Xamd or Basquash.

I liked Xamd. Other than the nonsensical ending, anyway.

As long as it doesn't pull a Code Trainwreck here with this series that I'll say it's worth checking out afterall. I mean it has the whole mech biased deal and how Japan is being oppressed by every country as usual. Pretty much this is kind of a subttle sense of Xenophobia here and with just cause mind you.

A good first ep. The only thing I really didnt like was the music, but except for that it was good.

The setting is nothing new but interesting with a lot of possibilitys.
Characterwise you cant say much since you didnt see a lot of the characters except for Shu who seems to share a past with Inori. That and the plot-resemblance (normal guy gets thrown into a bloody battle) remembered me a lot of Deadman Wonderland.
Animationstyle and quality were great and I hope it stays that way and doesnt drop significantly like its the norm nowadays.

You didn't like the music? What? Are you serious? You didn't like the high end production tracks? I really can't understand this at all. Care to explain what was bad about the music?

On another note, the animation quality is beyond great. Character development although, as mentioned previously, being stereotypical, I feel has great potential. We could be seeing a lot of character development in the upcoming episodes. For some reason this series sort of reminds me of Code Geass, Hopefully we will see another great series spring up from this. One more thing that caught my attention was the explosive intro to the series, not speaking visual wise, but story wise. Mainly to create the need for the audience to question what is going on and what could happen and what HAS happened before the intro. All of which i think will be answered later in the series.

Overall Good start, entertaining and VERY detailed.

Overall I personally LOVE the music, it is stylized to the series by event and not scene unlike a lot of anime. Which comes to show that the music was not just made for the series, but for the story and development. AKA High end production quality.

Thoughts so far.

Animation. 10/10

The problem with the music is that its slow and I cant stand slow music, especially when its coupled with singing. As instrument-only BGM its ok to be slow when it fits but not with singing. Thats why I cant stand most EDs and OPs.

I have to say that I was impressed both by setting, music and the first 3 minutes of the show. Really haven't seen that in a while.
I usually don't like the "I can't" kind of characters but somehow it works for the show and honestly I really enjoyed the first episode.

Top notch graphics and music... good setting and hopefully a good story could make this my pearl of the season

I am moving my post from the anime discussion thread to here...

Watched Guilty Crown last night...was impressed with the action, the mecha, the animation...just beautiful. The girls are all lovely and Gia is a bishounen dream...his look is just to drool over... I like the main character, weak and scared and fresh to all that is happening around him...he mustered enough courage to step out of his comfort zone and wow...he and the lovely maiden/weapon put on quite a show. He will grow on me...I just know it.
QUOTE
Also, music is by supercell, can't go wrong with that.
And yes, Aus-san...with supercell...the music is just so good.

I totally agree with your take on this one, my fine friend. Having some of the characters looking like eye-candy can't hurt either...I'm thinking Inori-chan and Gai-san.

I liked Shu as well...but he has stiff competition since I already gave my anime heart to Dio-sama.

I think I.G. here is doing what Sunrise has been failing to do in the last few years, creating a good original-story cyberpunk/mecha anime.

It's also, thus far, a good example of how you can use just about every major anime cliche, and still stay engaging and entertaining. That's kind of rare lately - for anime to be anime, and yet still good.

I really liked the opening music in the First episode. It felt dark and distant which fit the atmosphere. I was thinking this was going to be the opening song until I saw ep 2 and the real opening, which I absolutely hated.

So Far on Ep 2 and I really like this series. The feeling is very dark and controlling. It's reminding me a lot of Aeon Flux so far. Characters seem interesting with a nice mix between frail beauty and psychotic grandeur. Animation is excellent and character design (Especially the females are very appealing without being overboard)

Another good ep, but I dont know if I will like the mix of school and revolution. That can either be a hit or a miss.

The action was nice, even though I wouldve liked it if they explained at least a little bit of the powers Shu got instead of just showing what it all can do.

The only thing I disliked was that they only took action after the hot mom got killed by that blonde, degenerated sh*t.

Though he beat the crap out of her, they showed that the Mom survived at the end.

Extremely well put. It is quite all right to be unoriginal as long as you do it well, and so far they have.

Why do you think she survived oO You never saw her again. I just went back to the ep to confirm that. But maybe I oversaw it again so pls post an image.

Ok with epsidoe 2 I'm now really getting a Code Geass vibe with this series now. Pretty much terrorist organisation wanting to be treated fiarly instead of being pushed around by other countries that have the right to shoot on sight if they feel like it.

Granted it's an interesting series, but I kind of worry on how this'll end now.

@Accipiter: If you mean the scene I have in my mind right now than no, because the pants are different.

Episode 3 is yet another great episode. The going to school and living in the same house with a parent that is almost nonexistent is so cliche yet I don't think it does anything to hurt this show. The rest of episode, was great. They finally explained in more detail his weird power. The shape of people's heart huh? WTF a refrigerator!? Now I know why he keeps bowing at the end of the ending. It did manage to surprise me, I never thought Shu would be betrayed in such a cold fashion, especially after the "very sincere" agreement they made, Shu's a bit to naive. So much for thinking he would have someone he could share the secret and talk to. Inori this episode was so
wub.gif

Like the others, the music is superb. It really does add to the over feel of the show and the situations. Although I wish they would have kept Euterpe as the actual opening song.

There was too much at stake to keep that so-called "promise between friends" so the fact that Shu was betrayed was of no surprise.
dry.gif
That being said, I am hoping that so-called friend pays dearly for such betrayal and lives to regret it. Shu too, for being a fool to trust an outsider when Gai and Inori knew better. If the stakes are high, the outsider is be eliminated no matter who it is or you live to regret it...here's hoping Shu learned his lesson, too late for now, though, since he's possibly gonna be wrung out to dry.

Ep 3 was good but nowhere nearly as good as the first two. Overall it was a bit boring until the end. And I never wouldve thought that Inori is such a useless and boring character. Sure better than the obvious tsundere, but still bad.

The betrayal was completely predictable, thats just what you get for trusting a drug addict, especially if youre a wanted man.

Im surprised that everyone has a void. Does that mean everyone could be like Shu? Then the Undertakers could make a whole army out of that school and would be unbeatable.
