Thoughts:
I am in the process of catching up with the Genshiken anime. I am almost finished with season 1!
I don't know how I feel about the VA changes.... for example with Saki, I can't imagine anyone but Satsuki Yukino doing her justice... buuuuuut Rina Satou does have a similar voice. And Ohno being played by Yukana instead of Ayako Kawasumi... ehh, I don't know. I like Yukana too, but I thought Ayako Kawasumi was just perfect for her. I haven't gotten to the point where Chika Ogiue is introduced, but I am curious to see what her voice is like, and how the replacement will be able to fill those shoes.
The most disappointing change is Madarame's seiyuu, Nobuyuki Hiyama really made that character stand out. But it looks like Madarame doesn't play a prominent role anymore, so maybe I won't notice any difference.

It's been a while since I sen this series, but I don't even think I could ever find the episodes for this series again. In any case I'm still looking forward to watching it, and how it'll pick up from where the second season left off.

I'm very excited for this too Chrome2183, I am almost done season 1. My goal is to catch up before it starts airing

How do you feel about the voice actor changes?

Aww did they change some of the VA's? :/
Saki is whatever since she will rarely show up anyway, about the others tho... mh I'll have to watch the first episode since I have no idea what their new voices are like. :3

This season will mainly focus around these characters. Mostly Hato-chan. : p

I think we will notice a change in Oguie and Ohno's voices for sure... but as for the rest, I don't think they are in the spotlight anymore so we may not even notice the change.

Well, Ogiue IS in the spotlight it seems, but I don't really remember her for a distinct voice, so can't say it'll be a problem.

I do wonder how they'll handle this now that most characters that carried the original show are gone. And I do hope it's more along the lines of light-hearted wacky first series rather than somewhat melodrama-heavy second.

I'm curious myself how this series will be, I like both seasons, just had more fun watching season 1.

As far as VA's go, it depends how their voices matchup with the characters. I probably won't mind since I'm excited about this show but who knows.....Won't find out until they air. I should probably marathon 1 and 2 if I can find the time aughhh.....

Mh. well going to have to get used to Kuchiki and Madarame's new voices.
Either I cant remember Kuchiki's voice or it's just that Jun's voice does not fit him at all.

I'm kind of surprised to see that no one mentioned anything about the Monogatari references placed in this episode at all here. Especially how Sue acted like Shinobu in the beginning of Bakemonogatari here.

Still I have to say that I now have a trap to look forward too this season.

Anyways I'm glad to see this series came back, but it looks like it took quite a while here for this season to come out. Never the less at least some of the gang came back frm the orginal Genshiken thuough.

There's a number of chapters from the manga that were not animated, which explain why Ogiue hated herself and other otakus. This anime takes place after those events, and after Saki, Sasahara and Kousaka's graduation. If you're interested in seeing what happens, read chapter 43-55 like I did after finishing Genshiken 2

I wanted to see the developments between Ogi x Sasa!

I thought this first episode was pretty good, the seiyuu changes for Ohno and Ogiue don't bother me at all. Madarame's however..... not so great! I will also have to get used to Jun Fukuyama as Kucchi instead of Akira Ishida. I agree that he sounded funnier before.

As for the new characters.... well this seems to have turned into a fujoshi club!
tongue.gif
I had to laugh that the doujins they were passing around were all based on Sengoku Basara, lol.

I did notice all the references to Bakemonogatari and thought they were great
smile.gif
I wonder if Sue will make reference to a series every ep? that would be cool.

Maybe it's good that I didn't try going back to genshiken for a refresher before starting this one cause I didn't even know that there were cast changes. It's been so long that I didn't even remember what any of them really sounded like, outside of a basic idea of Madarame's voice.

Well, the first episode was OK but not that great. They're managing to compensate by adding new club members, but the overall chemistry is not nearly on the level of the original. Not to mention that the characters I didn't really like much in the original (Coochy and Sue) are much more prominent here.

I also feel like the series has lost the easygoing charm, and the references are quite a bit more forced.

Yeah, the changes with his VA are very apparent. I had seen a few episodes of Genshiken before, in 2004 or 2005 when it was first airing and even before re-watching it I could remember Madarame's voice. The VA did an excellent job with portraying this eccentric and passionate otaku.
I remember back in 2004 I didn't understand the anime that well, I didn't know what a doujin was, lol. Now I can watch it and fully understand as well as appreciate the references to otaku culture.

Yeah I don't think the same chemistry is there..... yet. We are only one episode in, so a lot can change (I'm hoping). I'm glad that they are still showing Madarame, Sasahara and the rest of the gang even though they are no longer the focal point ;_;

We still have Ohno in the club, and she'll provide plenty of amusement I'm sure.

YajixHato?

QUOTE (xr3negad3x @ Jul 13 2013, 05:04 PM) i was wondering if the main cast from before are involved in this and if they are how involved?
So far they are there, but don't seem to be the main focus. Ogiue is the new president and Ohno is still around in the club and Kuchiki is still around (unfortunately), but everyone else has graduated and moved on. Ogiue and Sasahara are still going out so we see him briefly. Tanaka and Ohno are still going out. Madarame makes some appearances as he still lives near the school. Saki and Kousaka make a brief appearance in the first episode.

But aside from Ogiue, Ohno, and Kuchiki, the other previous members are only side characters it seems and this will focus on those 3 plus 3 new members.

Okay with the second episode why do I feel like I got slapped in the face with yaoi for a moment there?

In any case we kind of now know what Hato dresses like that along with an alterior movies that kid has as well. To think that Hato would go that far here to show off how much of a yaoi trap s/he really wants to be here.
