Synopsis: If I am promised to the princess, then I will fight for her sake. In 1939 C.E., the imperialist nation of Germania invaded a neighboring country. All at once, that war spread throughout Europe, and the era was dragged into a spiral of a great war. Then, in 1940, Germania's attack turned towards the Principality of Elystadt, a small Alps country abundant with beautiful water and greenery.

</p>QUOTE (gdpetti @ Aug 01 2016, 02:00 PM)Izetta, the last witch based in 1940s battlefield? no summary yet, previous looked a little like that old German film... can't think of it... Metropolis... mixed with Nausicaa ... perhaps, hard to tell.... preview, though short, looked different.. and different is good

Ep.1 looks promising enough even if there's no manga, game etc about it (yet):p

This series seems interesting, but I'm not sure if I like it yet.

I like the characters. It seems almost a shame that Fine will grow up to be the crazy scientist from Symphogear.

I prefer its "dogfights" too than Brave Witches', also set in an alternate WW2 (Strike's spinoff) yet I dropped both

What? for shame! (The joke is Symphogear S1's villain is a blonde named Fine)

Three eps in, and this one is awesome. The 3D CG work on the first major battle is amazing.

Just checked out the eps so far.... it's pretty good... but the character needs more backgrounding to give her depth... as she is portrayed as the usual moe type otherwise, IMO... she lacks an edge that I thought I saw/felt in the preview...
The writing is ok, but needs an edge for the scifi aspect of an alternate dimension of s/t in which similar things are happening, but things are given a twist.... nations are similar but different. This show simply needs more depth, it is targeted for kids obviously... but that doesn't mean it can be given more 'depth'...in her background story.... what happened to her mother, grandmother, father, WhiteWItch tribe etc... ??? More is needed, and can be used in the storytelling and action scenes as well.

I was hoping for more.... like other witch animes... they are generally ok, but they should do more with the 'magic'... or 'magick', if they want to make it 'dark'. Otherwise, it's ok.

take it as 'what if prior the peaceful Flying Witch, almost all them were hunted?' ;p didn't you want action or plot'twists... well check out ep'9 who's its main antagonist, was hinted yet I doubt that war will end in tragedy like BiancaxRickert <_<

I prefer to wait till a few eps are out to watch them... more like a film that way... keeps the pacing/storyline going... so I'll wait a couple weeks before going through my list for this season... Right now, I'm checking out Code Geass..
another alternate timeline or s/t universe/dimension... which are said to exist fwiw... all vectors in probability/possibility based in free will choice... which in itself is an interesting concept... sort of what's been done in many scifi series from the old Star Trek to various Fox shows like SLiders and Fringe... which I liked, well the first season anyway.

I'm hoping the writing starts to give the young 'last' witch more depth... the whole backstory on the decimation of 'witches' in our timeline could suffice as background... especially as it all fits in with the same warring of kingdoms/empires... the women were essentially sacrificed in the name of combating 'evil', when the real 'evil' ones were the Church and aristocracy that killed/maimed/tortured them and various other opposition groups in order to steal their lands/property, as they inherited them after their husbands died in all the religious wars and later in the various Crusades... same now in the Middle East as we repeat history and theft.. typical psychopathic behavior that happens when civilizations collapse.

See! Such great background for characterization. I'm hoping they give it more depth, it isn't hard to do if the writer/writing team is well informed about the symbols they're using, though that isn't usually the case in any medium it seems, though in the West, especially here in the USA, such symbols seems used mostly for our fake superheroes and Santa CLaus plotlines.

The preview looked 'fuller' IMO... or maybe I was seeing the potential more than the most likely probable outcome? Either way, with an alternate timeline, there are usually more scifi elements added, not that it has to happen, but she is a 'powerful witch' according to her grandmother, I think was the remark... so, along with more hidden knowledge in that cavern of the White Witch as a plotpoint, there is a possibility! ;)

Don't know what the 'BiancaxRickert' reference is.... I can never remember the names of most characters in the animes I'm watching... perhaps it's easier to just mention what trope type they are? As I watch more anime, it is interesting hearing the same VAs so much.. and I suppose they keep playing the same character types too... well, they are good, and that would explain that... which is why I like those industry animes... entertaining and informative simultaneously.

you'll see what i mean up to ep'10 ;/ by its cliffhanger, i wonder why Sieg didnt give Izetta half 'philosopher stone' earlier... And why the nazis germanian army didnt kill or capture her, maybe it's a plan to grant Sophie's clone(s) revenge -_-

Ok, finished ep 12, the finale. Overall pretty good, but that scene in a later ep setting up the whole clone white witch was rather sloppy character setup.... C'mon man, they didn't even try with that one....
dry.png

Add the facts on clones.... they might look the same, but it's a different entity.... so different personality... and definitely no memory of any 'past'... as they don't have one!!! So, again another cheap setup for the next ep... sloppy, even if the animation etc looked good... the writing was weak in that ep... as well by the end, as they mentioned a few times how the clone is weaker, but never utilized that aspect... seems the writing team came up with a different idea of how to end it and just ignored their previous setup.
wacko.png

Otherwise a nice 'magical girl' anime.... alternate history setup to explain away the usual propaganda crap on WW2... no doubt they don't want to mention that it's the usual western bankers setting up these empires... all of them.. same now with the western bankers setting up China... they tried taking over Russia in the 90s with 5th column types - oligarchs- but it finally failed after Yeltsin essentially put Putin in power... and he slowly took back the reins from our greedy baffoons over there.... this whole thing makes it look like our Hollywood fantasies about how we won that war in Europe, when we were hardly involved until near the end, after Russia was pushing the Nazis back home.. then we thought it best to move in and setup a western front.... typical false flag ops everywhere in history... so not unusual that it's followed here too... with that 'alternate timeline' feature to explain it all away with a sly smile that would make Soros smile.

But again, overall a nice little anime.. I also thought advertising the red headed witch was a bad idea, but it was the writing's team easy way out. The white witch dying in the Church's Inquisition/witch-hunt/land and power grab was ok but if she was a real witch, she really didn't need that staff.... a lot of inconsistancies here again... common in anime it seems, the writers don't do any work in regards to their world setup/ characters etc.... just utilize symbols without any understanding about what they are... typical. I was about to give up on this anime after that underground cave ep where the German spies just sort of walk in and walk away.... that's a head shaker.

Oh, another error in my opinion was that the white witch, and probably the red headed one too, could have been sniped out of action quite easily so many times... just sitting up in the air for any good sniper to take out... but I guess I'm thinking too much?

From what I noticed both can cast a bullet-proof force field, maybe the original sophie wasn't at any leyline back then... so history repeats itself like how Hitler Otto died apparently, but yep a fun ride while Izetta lasted (bad pun I know)
