So for those who don't know yet I made an announcement regarding this movie a while back in the Kai thread. Nevertheless, I decided to create it's own individual thread in the Drama section as now it has some very GREAT information.

Expected Premier Date: April 2008

Bottom line is we are in for a treat this December, especially Christmas: http://www.moetron.com/2007/12/05/higurash...-christmas-eve/

On December 24, 2007, a 30 minute special will be airing for the Higurashi live-action movie

"The movie itself will be directed by Ataru Oikawa and will star Gouki Maeda (Keiichi) and Rin Asuka (Mion)."

So have fun with some real violence

On a side note, ANN reports the movie as an "alternate retelling" but have not specified how or what.

My guess is they will the PS2 remake ending: Miotsukushi-hen (alternate Matsuribayashi-hen) as it ties all the previous arcs together including Watanagashi/Meakashi, Tsumiboshi, Onikakushi, the PS2 exclusive question arcs, Tattagoroshi, and Minagoroshi. Any other opinions?

Dude , it that true that will be a Higurashi Live action movie .
If true , will it be cover with blood in the movie as showed in the anime .

doesn't look too bad right? although I think the chosen Keiichi and Mion fit most. I wonder how they're going to do the bloody scenes though.. all of a sudden I remember the Japanese Horror The Audition again..
blink.gif

and it's just gonna be one movie for the first season only? Hope it'll turn out right.. they might just skip a lot, or mess up a clear storyline in one movie =/

But I'm looking forward to it ^^ Higurashi has a special bloody place in my heart XD

What I'm looking forward most is if they dye their hairs to the appropiate colors. It would be awesome! Mion with green hair XD. But I don't see that happening with the current actor, so oh well

.

They all seem pretty young for the age too, especially Maeda Gouki; he looks like a freshman in high school. Rika and Satoko, however, don't fit well at all.

For live action movies they usually keep it as realistic as possible, and the trailer on their site doesn't show colored hair either =/

Keiichi seems reasonable since Mion is only around 16 or 17. Considering Mion and Shion are the oldest of the group, I'm not surprised if Keiichi is a freshman in high school. Rika and Satoko, it's not like you're going to literally get 9 or 10 year olds acting that mature

or maybe you will

I actually think they should reverse the actors for the two. The current Satoko actor seems to fit better for Rika.
Ooishi's actor on the other hand seems perfect

Judging from omitting Satoshi, it looks like they won't be going too far in the story. In fact, by omitting Shion it looks like only Onikakushi-hen will take place

I have a burning question:

I really, really, reaaaally want to see this movie, but living in the US (and not speaking Japanese >.<) it's hard for me to get these live action movies and understand them...
Anyone else in this situation or have a suggestion?

Thanks a lot!

Torrents or find a direct download is all I can suggest. Either way, the movie isn't even in theaters yet. It is scheduled for April 2008 so my guess the DVD won't be out until September, which is when the first good raw torrents will be available. As for subs, that's going to be a little more difficult. It depends on whether or not people will want to sub it.

The other alternative is to import it through sites like play-asia, but they are really costly when you add the custom/import tax. However, not all of the DVDs sold in Japan have subs with them, so you need to be careful of what you are ordering.

According to Wikipedia:
"With the announcement of the live-action movie adaptation of Onikakushi-hen came the news that over 500,000 copies of the games have been sold."

It's a shame it's only Onikakushi-hen.

I was hoping for something much much more.

KICK ASS!!! When I first saw this anime like a year ago... I was like WTF for the whole time. Then later I was able to finish the anime and I was like this is good... real good. I think I have found my true calling for anime that I truly like and this is it. Like Elfen Lied but w/o the nudity. I can't wait til this becomes available to the english speakers. And whats with the purple haired girl? Is she like God or something because she talks strange and can look into the future and crap. I never knew her background (The youngest one if the hair color isnt enough information, the one who stabbed herself in the head with a butcher knife)

Purple haired = Hanyuu
Blue Hair who stabbed herself = Rika

Which one are you referring to? Hanyuu is the God and none of the two can see into the future. All they know are the events up to June 21, 1983 which is the day when Rika gets killed and the night of the Hinamizawa Disaster.

Small update, Eiko Shimamiya is once again the theme singer for Higurashi. This time with "Wheel of Fortune" (Unmei no Wa). Interesting they use Unmei (which is fate in japanese) since that's the the theme for the series starting from Minagoroshi-hen onwards.

HI I'm New to anime fansubs but i am a huge Higurashi fan and this board has just made my day i can't wait for the movie. even if they do a slight variation of the film i am sure that it will still have the same story development twists and of course a stream of BLOOD that we all know and love.

Live Action SEQUEL already in the works!!!!

Looks like the movies will be arcs themselves recomposing the entire series

QUOTE (Dark Messiah @ May 13 2008, 03:26 AM) I think the movie it's released any idea if there is anywhere in the web?
The movie premiered in theaters in Japan on Saturday. Raws won't be out until November or December at the earliest. Raws from the movie are usually terrible and they're usually videotaped illegally since it's illegal everywhere to bring video cameras and such into theaters.
