I am personally shocked. But it was inevitable. Looks like the manga publishers are serious now.
Im not that shocked since something like this was bound to happen eventualy, but im not all that bothered by its since unless a few more of the key sites go: Mangahelpers, Mangatraders, Mangafox, mangastream etc, go its not that big of a deal since there a still a good few sites, just as big or bigger than OM anyways.

And even if those sites do go down we can still turn to the scanlators websites anyway. So its not that big of a deal right now imo, but if more more and more sites, go then i will be more converened than i already am.

Onemanga shutting down makes every normal person happy.

Finally people will yet again:
A) Buy the literature and read it away from pc like its meant to be read.

stop online-reading the lq scans and actually start downloading the actually good quality scanlations/be interested in wheels_inside_the_machine behind the scanlators yet again.

"online manga" sites are profiting from publishing the works they did not scan, clean, translate and typeset Your average otaku is no longer interested in the actual gears behind the process and thinks that manga scanlations grow on trees.

I for one always refused to use the "online viewing" sites and I for surely applaud on what is happening now.

Meh it looks like it'll be time for me to look for another place to read manga now. Besides here were a few manga that I wanted to read but never could find anything for it.

Onemanga had a pretty poor collection of manga, the only thing I liked was the simple fast-loading interface. There's a plenty of other/better sites.

@Anybody: People who never bought manga never will. Also, licensed translations are slow as hell.

Agreed, i prefer frequenting the Scanlated Sites to get them direct instead of online readers, mainly becasue its quicker. I mean there is a scan group who i follow numeorus series they do, they release batch torrents, so all i need to dfo is keep the torrent active and its automaticly updates, its easy and more conveineint that check an online viewer.

Plus i like buying manga (when i can afford it

) so this will encourage more people to do so

I usually read the scanalations when it's not licensed or just too long forme to even buy the series. I mean sometimes it's worth reading the scanalations since you would like to have something of a high quality if it does get licensed. Also, if the licensing groups did a good job with thier quality work in the first place then maybe people won't stick to the scanalation groups as much.

For me this could be a once bitten twice shy ordeal they are doing. Also, haven't they thought that people read the scanalations because they can't wait for months on end for them to release one volume. I mean the US manga companys should just try and catch up to what volume the Japanese are on first, then they have full right to complain if you ask me.

Who cares? There are like five more "onemanga" out there; all with their own little way of makings sure we see all 254 Ads that they have to offer with each page we read.

Truth be told I hardly ever use onemanga since I prefer to download the scanlations, and with that said this probably has... I don't know... no affect on me whatsoever.

I'll be "shocked" when the big time scanlation groups all quit at once, now there is somthing to worry about.

Mangahelpers and Mangafox are already essentially gone. Mangahelpers has shut down entirely while mangafox has complied to remove all licensed titles as well as additional ones upon request.

To be honest, given the recent movements by Japan and US regarding manga, I'm not entirely surprised. The only surprise when Mangahelpers went down so suddenly without any notice. After that, the domino effect was pretty much expected.

Like Anybody said, this is a right move. Manga is cheap as are light novels and there is no reason for sites to be hosting licensed titles unless said titles are not being release (glares at Seven Seas's light novel division).

If this had to deal with fansubbing, honestly, the US anime industry would be making a wrong move particularly due to cost. Anime is significantly more expensive than manga and is not something you can simply go to a store and preview to determine whether or not you actually want to buy it. People won't buy things that they don't like, let alone for a high price.

Compared to animation studios, manga authors and publishers earn very pitiful amounts of money, so I'm in favor of supporting them.

But it seems that this is not just happening with manga sites either. Most all of the movie streaming sites no longer exist and that just happened this summer. This summer has been pretty bad on the sites.
