VLC Player isn't playing mkv files

For some werid reason my vlc player (video lan) isn't playing mkv files sad.gif im trying to play darker than black episode 9 from sado fansubs but it won't play it at all and i can't install stuff on the computer unless my dad does it so im pretty much stuck >_<

Have your dad update VLC Player if it's not the latest. It might be slightly more reliable.

Or use something else.

If on Windows have your dad get and install CCCP.

If on Linux/Mac get MPlayer.

So once the cccp pack is installed on the pc what player do i need? and also i use windows xp home edition ^^

Two players are included. Media Player Classic and Zoomplayer. Use either one.

CCCP is not fully compatible with any other players besides the included ones. That means even downloading a separate MPC or ZP will not work. You must use the included ones in the install.

MKV files often contain complicated codec and streams. It might be caused by that issue. I often have trouble in playing MKV in VLC. For example, the MKV files is HD or the file length is long. I find a solution in Google. You can type "Import/Add MKV Videos VLC to Enjoy 720P, 1080P and 5.1 AC3 MKV in VLC" in Google to see if it is still available. It helps solve my issues.
