well first off since i'm not too familiar with the art section if this is in the wrong section could someone please move it? =/

i've used PhotoPlus 5.5 to do the colour for this line art which DOES NOT BELONG TO ME. its from a chapter of Zombie Loan... i think its in vol. 2 =/ i just did the colouring for exprimental purposes and if anyone has any good tips or advice on how to add tone and shine on hair/clothes etc it would be very helpful ^^ thankyou ^^
And since the image is kinda large i've stuck it in the spoiler tag...

hello

I am not an expert on photo shop but there are 2 details in my opinion, that would make the pic look better.
1. you should make the white part of the eye of the girl in the pink dress white..... somehow the eye has the same colour as her face.

2. Try adding little bit of shadow to her dress. Picture where the light is coming from and how the dress casts shadows. That will make the pciture look more plastic.
Otherwise it is quite nice.

Well I couldn't find an actual official thread so I guess I'll go ahead and promote this into an actual Coloring Line Art Thread. Horray.

Anyhow, I went back to looking at lineart, and I wanted to apply something I learning from something else. So here's my coloring:

Basically, I tried using some things from pseudo-photography (For those that were on TS, it was the one where I was trying to make a pseudo Chihara Minori). If you look at the PSD file of this image (or imagine), it has a multitude of layers (around 30 I think).

EDIT: Here's the original:

Ok, a few things that stand out imo. First, layers layers layers. Use the multiply option to create shading.

Notice the shading used to change This to This

Next, there is a really good Eye tutorial at Coloring anime eyes There are some tricks I use that makes it easier than doing all the hand coloring on the eyes, but using the manga flat black eyes really detracts.

Finally, color the hair. Next to the eyes, the hair is one of the most impacting features of a picture.

BTW, I have all the psd files from the link in my sig. I can send some to you, if you have a large email space to send them to. There are two of them that are over a 350 mb though.

My technique barely uses multiply at all. Multiply gives too much shading to an area where you have to constantly change the opacity of the brush. Moreover, it's hard to know what you're doing when you're trying to extent the shade to where it fades out of/into the light. It is a good blending option, but you need to know what section of the color palette to transition to for every color. For me, the only layer set to multiply on my previous post is the base color layers (all the basic colors you see) and on top of that 20-30 layers of different shading styles (one of them being on multiply for parts of the hair).

Other than that, instead of shading, you can also make an array of color shades on your own, just like what I did here:

I spend a few weeks, if not months, working on this project. Because real-life photographs are so detailed, shading is difficult.

I also incorporated this technique into the other image (for example, the eyes, the eye shadows, and partially her face, more over the cheeks)

EDIT: BTW I'm not quite sure if you guys can see everything that I can see on this monitor... I just got a HD digital output card for my PC and everything's like so detailed.

Heh sorry hamasusuke, I guess I should have used quote. I was speaking to the original poster in the thread. Your technique, I could not do yet, I lack the expertise

It looks really good on my old GeForce 4 6250, that image you say is in high def, some of that may be my monitor too though. I have a high def capable monitor.

What I've been working on lately is a bit different from what you guys are discussing, but I would still like some input on what I have so far.

Line art gives a little more flexability in my oppinion than the extremely detailed and heavily shaded art that you get from Berserk.

Time to revive the good ol' thread.

It's a current work in process and for this one I"m trying to individually do everything one by one, not all at the same time. (so far, you can see Base colors, the crafting of the jewels you see around her chest area, and I'm currently doing the shadings). It doesn't look clean yet, but that's because I'm not attempting clean-up yet.

Credits to kuridoki from deviantart for the lineart.

pretty nice ^^,

what i usaully do is use diffirent layers for different colours, youtube 'Drawing with Gimp' To watch how i do them ^^

I was at a local electronics store today, they had one of the Cintiq Wacom tablets *drool* lineart would be easy to do with one of those...at a 2000 dollar pricetag, nyehehe.
