Great news eh? I am about to start watching this one and you have opened a thread for it....very good. I know of someone else, who is very influential herein....

I only have a couple of friends to talk about Major with :/
You are welcome...I only have one friend to talk to about this series and he will more than likely, make a visit here and give us his take...will watch a few episodes today and then post again....I know it is a good series, from what I have read.

Oh cool somebody took some initiative and opened up a thread for this. I'll definitely partake in some discussion when somebody is up for the challenge. Well currently I'm a little past the halfway point of season three. Goro is as stubborn as ever and playing injured. Looks like he could miss the match-up against Kimori and Mifune if they win but somehow I doubt that. I'll watch a few episodes tonight and see how that all plays out.

I finished about 10 episodes and put it on the back burner it just didn't stand up to Major but who knows I'll probably give it another go when I'm done w/Major. I'm not sure I can watch two baseball themed animes at once.

QUOTE (BrAZuKA195 @ Jul 08 2008, 06:03 PM)Dude...it only starts getting good when its up to episode 10.Keep watching!
Woah I totally have to disagree with ya there. Do you not recall the scene in the first six episodes or so when Goro's father dies?! That was such a shocker and tragic moment in anime. Just seeing him sit there by the bed as Hoshino was crying. Then he gives her that speech his dad gave him when Chiaki died. That was an awesome scene. I thought they did a great job building his dad's character up just enough to make the hospital scene carry enough sympathetic weight.

Yeah that moment was sad.It was shocking i wasn't expecting that. But i mean that Ookiku Furikabutte starts getting good by episode 10,not Major.Although Major does start getting good too at that point...

Ah-chan! Our friend, BrAZuKA195, was talking about the other anime series....Ookiku Furikabutte. Ah...well....thanks for the dramatic despcription of what will be a must see for me....I can foresee no fouls or strike-outs, with this one!

Update.... Just saw my first Major episode, and I gotta say....it is good. I am going to enjoy watching this one. Good storytelling with engaging characters. Realistic approach to the hardships of both life and professional baseball. Little Goro-kun idolizes and loves his daddy, losing his mom was hard, but then there is Miss Hoshino and well...she is sweet to him. Gonna watch episode 2 in a bit. Thanks senpai for your recommendation...you hit a homer with this one.

Hurray.... we have a thread for Major!

I'm up to date with MJN's release of Major and am really excited. Though, I have to say I have not like the past two episodes quite as much.

It gets rather ridiculous with Keane, the "golden rookie" catcher. Not only does he intentionally walk two batters to load the bases in the bottom of the ninth, but he intentionally walks the leadoff man in the 2nd inning with his team winning 3-0, and then doing the same each time the player came up. That is not baseball! That's just... idiocy, and no matter if his battery-mate served up the go-ahead run in a college tournament, no professional baseball organization would stand for it. Luckily, it seems Sanders will get his time to shine behind the plate next episode.

Also I enjoyed greatly the episode with Komori managing the Dolphins and the episodes dealing with Toshiya. It's great that Major doesn't just focus on Goro, but gives screen time for many characters.

I want to see many more people watching Major. It's by far my favorite sports anime, though Hikaru no Go comes close if you consider Go a sport.

I hope the fansubbers can continue to release episodes quickly over the summer.

Well, I am happy too! I just watched the first 3 episodes and will watch episode 4 after this....senpapi-kun, chewed me out
rolleyes.gif
for reading his spoiler, but after that...no more spoilers....hahaha. Anyway, the last episode was good....Goro's dad hits a homerun to win the game and Goro gets a very nice surprise and made proud as a result...I know, compared to everyone else here, I am way behind.....loved the episode about joining the Little league as well....
wink.gif

I am up to date too. I like Keane and then I don't.I like how he let Goro just throw where ever he wants full power. What i don't like about him is his attitude.

I am watching a few and these two lines were faves....both by Goro-kun.
wink.gif

"I'm not a baseball missionary, you know."
"Ooohh...nice panties."
These lines, he says, to a little girl in his class, Shimizu, who at first, dislikes him, they squabble, then she wants to join the team and he catches her practicing in secret. What fun. I will catch up with all of you, eventually.

The episode where Goro's dad died was a sad one and I am glad he got to live with Miss Hoshino, she's a real mom to him now. And the episode where he goes to join the Little League...hilarious...that coach is so funny as are those team mates....all, half heartedly there, while making plans to be elsewhere...had me laughing.....but I know our hero is gonna save the day! Hooray!

I'm almost up to date but I gotta say I was a little disappointed w/the start of season four. I would have much rather him stayed in Japan and played pro ball there for a while before going to the majors. I struggled to get through some of that woefully & terribly god awful english. Though now that I'm on episode 87, I've gotten a bit more used to it. It was hilarious when Goro got his bags stolen right on arrival and also very convenient that he could always find someone who could speak japanese, but I understand he's gotta be able to communicate. I was happy to see that he was finally going to learn a curveball but then he already scrapped that idea

Well trust me you will get used to it.I thought it was about time Goro learned something other than a curveball. But I don't really care.As long as goro strikes people out beautifuly ill love this anime

Some more season four thoughts specifically about Goro: The only issue that I had is that it's really unrealistic for a professional baseball player to only throw a fastball and try to play in the majors. I had always thought that he would eventually fail miserably and have to learn to throw a variety of pitches or at least a freakin curveball. I know he throws 99 mph and up but no one lives soley off a fastball. Ah well, will see how it turns out and I'll try not to focus too much attention on that.

While I have yet, to get as far as all of you, I did find some episodes quite interesting with regards to the pitching style of both the Japanese and the Americans. I speak of the episodes where that tall, blond, giant appeared....Joe Gibson. I think that was his name. Anyway, like senpai says, there is no way an American Major League player would throw one type of pitch...he has to have all sorts of pitches up his sleeve, or he's out. What I found interesting was the culture clash the American pitcher experienced on and off the field. He was frustrated and it seemed annoyed, at how the Japanese played...."teamwork." Now, for Goro-kun to hit the big time, with only one pitching style....sounds unrealistic to me....gonna be checking that out eventually...almost done with season 1.

Nolan Ryan holds the MLB record for all time strikeouts and no-hitters.

He used almost exclusively the fastball, except late into his career.

The most inaccurate thing so far is definitely Keane's outlandish way of intentionally walking the bases loaded. That and telling his starting pitcher that if he gave up a single hit than he would be pulled from the game, in the second inning.

Keane is annoying and he needs to go away.

Being a Major cricket fan (pun intended

). I took a special interest to this series. Okay so baseball is a poor man's cricket but it's better than nothing!
tongue.gif
If only they did an anime series on cricket...
sad.gif
It would be funny to see the Japanese take on Test cricket!
laugh.gif
Hmm but I must say I'm rather ignorant with the ways of baseball. Could be a problem!
laugh.gif

Saying that I do see some similarities. The curveball is baseball's equivalent to crickets swing deliveries while the changeup is the same as the slower ball. Oh I digress! Hmm only seen the first 5 episodes (yes the first!) So I'm miles behind the rest! But from what I've seen I'm surprised with the amount of detail they've shown on sporting injuries. Torn ligaments, hernias?
ohmy.gif
Wasn't expecting that! Will probably watch a few more...

Glenn McGrath is the leading wicket taker (read most strikeouts) for a fast bowler in Test cricket. In his youth he relied on raw pace but as he got older he depended more on accuracy and trickery! Oh the similarities continue!

Ah....I remember, somewhere, in this forum, reading about what Cricket is... I watched a few clips and thought of how much Cricket looks like Baseball.... Do Cricket players make as much dough as Baseball players? One thing is for sure...Cricket players have better manners...
wink.gif
Now, that I am done going off topic, it seems the Little League coach will be of some assistance to our little hero....well, he's growing up and fast. That coach is funny and I think will be a good mentor to Goro-kun. I know his handsome father, (may he rest in peace) would agree.
