Synopsis: Persona 4 takes place in a rural town named Inaba. There have been mysterious murders occurring whenever there was fog after heavy rain. There were also rumors about a channel on television airing only at midnight called Mayonaka TV, during which it is said that one can see his/her "other half" when staring at the TV screen.

After hearing about a recent unsolved murder which occurred during the fog, the characters—Narukami, Chie, and Yosuke—discuss how each of them had attempted to watch the mysterious TV channel and witnessed the murder victim. The protagonist later realizes that during midnight when the channel is on, his body can phase into his television set as a gateway to enter another world infested with shadows.

After discovering this, they all decide to explore. When first completely entering the world, dazed and confused, Narukami meets Teddie. Mayonaka TV and the town murders seem to have a connection. The murder victims may be merely victims of Mayonaka TV. Everyone decides that they will together try to solve the mysterious murders by exploring the hidden world of Mayonaka TV.

I was somewhat surprised that there wasn't already a topic since we're past 18 episodes in now and I would imagine the series will end sometime in the twenties. I just got through watching episode 18 and felt compelled to talk about Dojima. This guy was starting to be in the running for worst father of the year. It was odd because I hadn't noticed that much of a decline in his parenting skills in previous episodes. But the guy became a workaholic and was down right nasty when talking to Yuu. He was shifting all the work (telling him to mind his own business) on to him as if Yuu was Nanako's father. I liked it when Nanako called him baka X 3 and he was all put off like how dare you speak to your father like that

what a jackass. Ultimately he learned you can't obsess over the dead (his wife) and neglect the family members that still remain.

I see that some subbers have actually released episode twenty (been using commie) so if there are some decent subbers I might just go ahead a download them. I've gotta admit though I'm not familiar at all with a couple of those groups. Well maybe they're all just rips anyway.

The music of P4 is pretty standout though. I love the lyrics and that one hell of a sweet beat to the first OP "Sky's the limit:"

What was so much
of blurry vision
turned into bright clear prospection
my instinct tells me to keep going forever
going forever

Anytime you need a hand
I will be there
I know that you'll be there for me because

It's breathtaking moments in life
addicted to it
minds craving
more and more
I'm believing
you and I can do anything
we can change the world
hey sky's the limit we can spread wings
to roadless travel together we go.

Plus the second OP "Key Plus Words" is also really good. I need the full size version of that one for sure. Oh yeah that one episode where they played the King's game was one of the funniest scenes in anime I've seen in a while.

Its really surprising that now that the animes is nothing more than worthless someone makes a thread oO The first few eps were pretty good but after they got the supposedly murderer it totally fell appart with the alltime low the ep with the kings game where I thought I must have had crack in my food because it was so absolutely unrealistic what I was seeing. As if I downloaded a troll that shifts into the worst porn ever or something.

Yes Dojima is the anime./hollywood-clichee police officer. Ok maybe even a bit more scum than that. I really wanted Yuu to beat the crap outta him, he deserved it.

Overall I ahve to say that people in Japan who played the game must be really disappointed in this. Persona Trinity wasnt really great and was named a failure over there but this here is even worse in my eyes. I cant really imagine that the game can be good.
Worst is of course that there are no explanations about stuff. Not about the world behind the TVs, not about the two persons who start each ep in the velvet room, not why Yuu got an ass full of personas while everyone else only has one.
Only good thing is that Yukie is hot and Chie and Risa goodlooking, but that was it.

Btw, Im waiting for Commie too and since this show is not high on my priority list I can wait.

I think that all of that will be explained by the end of the show... of course I could be wrong, but I'm hoping for some explanation myself. I have played Persona 3 before but not this one, so I don't know what the story is here.

I always fall behind on this show, because it's not high on my priority list. It's not a bad show, just lacking excitement at times. I also noticed they were slacking in the animation department early on. There was an episode where they hardly blinked at all....

Well, some folks do like what they like...I was enjoying this one up to a certain episode then got bored as it seemed to be lacking any real intrigue or sense of purpose, imo. Perhaps, it has gotten better since then, but I never stuck around to find out as I dropped it and gladly so. Nice thread btw, Witty-san.

Tsk, tsk, always waiting on me to make the first move let me introduce you to the phrase give and take

But ya know I didn't actually finish beating P4 the game (btw the game was really fun) so these last few episodes have finally been new material for me. I find myself more interested when I don't know what is going to happen next. Plus with the time invested I really have to find out who the killer is.

It's an okay little anime but nothing to get overly excited about on a weekly basis. I felt it's gotten better lately so I'll continue to watch it. It's definitely no worse than what LE: II is throwing out there but I continue to watch that one as well.

BTW commie just released episode 19 and 20 for whoever is still watching the series.

Oh, I agree...but with LE:II, I have characters I care about and like which has made it watchable for me; with this one however, I never invested in the characters from the get go...well, the main protagonist was interesting and cute, but then he became uninteresting just like the rest of the cast and the anime...

Considering this is a game to anime adaptation, it would certainly wouldn't be a good independent anime on its own, even the recent Im@s adaptation had its complaints from the im@s community which I dwell on too.

I tend to look at adaptations like this as more of just an commercializing of the original product, since you are limited to writing a script that has a duration of 20 mins (20 pages more or less) and they do this weekly

with a limited funding 24 eps or 26, which is why there is a reason that some games are just meant only to be games, it is indeed possible to make it better, but would still have limitations since most games have no predefined actions and not to mention the insurmountable amount of dialogues thats gonna be present.

@killer_Ossi
all the persona games exist in the same universe even adjacent timelines, you wouldn't be able to fit the whole backstory for the plot devices present in the story. As for the Multiple personas, its already been explained by margaret, Yuu is one of the few that has the ability to have many persona's, his ability is called Wild card, second the phenomena's present in the story will be explained there is a reason its within the bounds of a mystery genre unless you want a good spoiling which kills the thrill of the story whether its the game or anime.

@senpai-kun as for the music its understandle after its Shoji Meguro hes the guy behind the music and its what practically the persona series and other shin megami tensei games popular since then. I suggest you look up OSTs that he has worked on to name a few are P3 & P4 (of course), devil survivor 1 & 2, SMT: Kuzunoha Raidou vs King abaddon, etc.

PS: Im not sure about this but I heard the some of the people working on this anime quit around ep 14 or 15 leaving production problems not sure though.

All I know is that I was on episode 18 before some of the decient subs decided to quit on us for various reasons. In any case most of them are the kind of rips that just don't sit right with me personally.

In any case I'm supprised this thread wasn't made sooner though.

Okay after watching episode 19 I have to say the Culture Festival was a nice break to the whole issue of what has been going on in town. Alhough I have to say that Yuu did pull off a good cross-dressing bit there, but I have to give it to Teddie to look like Alice from the Wonderland book series though.

So it seems that with ep 21 it finally gets to the last part of the story. I still think its Adachi whos the culprit, even though it doesnt look like that. But since this show does a lot of random stuff (like Dojima almost dying while the cars have almost no scratch) its not impossible.

So we're comming down to the end of the series. I have to say that it was a fun series and it seems that things are finally comming to a close here with the kidnapings and whatnot.

Although it makes me wonder why the guy thought he was "saving" people to begin with, when in actuality they end up getting killed if Yuu doesn't save them first.

With the episode 24, there is only one episode left it seems. I hope they will not end this with Adachi death/arrest only as there is more...

Told you its Adachi whos the real culprit. It was so predictable with the way he always acted and knew things. And his easy going way was quite suspicious too.

I wonder how they're going to implement the "Truth" with only one episode since the game had 3 bosses in the end One of them was adachi as everyone already now kknows in the end with one of them being totally unpredictable because of how insignificant or far back that person was met.

That's what I'm asking myself too ! When I have done the game and the "Truth" was unveiled, I was really surprised at how it was handled. But here in the anime, there is only 1 episode left with surely half the episode for Adachi battle... I really hope they will not end this with Adachi death/arrest as we still don't know why Yuu didn't confront his shadow or what the TV world is about. Too many questions left for one episode =/

Wow AnimeNewsNetwork just stated something about the final truth episode being disc only. That's a beat of a bummer.... People want Yu to ass whoop that gas station attendants....

What! We need to wait for the True end on Blu-ray...Oh well at least we dont have to worry about them squeezing it into one episode. I loved getting the true end in the game, made me feel so accomplished.

On one side its good they are doing another ep because if not they wouldve to squeeze two eps into one, but on the other side of course its bad because we have to wait for the BD-Release to watch it -.-
Because of that Im not gonna rate or review it for now.

Well according to the 25th episode, this "final true end episode" would be due to 2012/08. So we have 4 month to wait...

Between, I'm kinda deceive at how the persona evolved like it was a "friendship power up" while in the game, you had to work on a character to have his/her social rank at max to have the second form of the persona =/
