QUOTE (Kansatsusha-sama @ Dec 08 2009, 01:48 AM)
http://windows.micro...temrequirements soo uhh... just add more ram since i know u got a good video card. and maybe directx install

I think 1GB of ram is sufficent to watch a movie, and if we're talking anime fansubs then i'd be very worried if that was needed for a normal episode.

I play 4GB ISO images on machines using VLC and it manages fine over a network connection, pc was a dual P4 Xeon 2.8ghz, 1gb ram, and yes runing XP not 7.

The symptoms for memory issues would be dropping of frames and audio going out sync, or skipping, dependig on the player, if that is happening with a GB of ram, and assuming your not torrenting and playing quake with 10 firefox tabs open all at once, i think it shouldnt be memory.

The graphics card should be irrelevant, as any card now should be able to have direct video, and you dont need 3D power to play video, its just an overlay. The stupid new windows aero theme thing uses 3d tho.

However, did you have any messenger programs running? like skype of msn? Because it might be an audo bandwidth problem. If you playing a movie, or an mp3 and someone comes on line in msn, msn will make a bleep or ping sound, if your audio device cant handle 2 at once, you'll get a crack and funny sound. I've had this in xp and vista on different machines. You can try changing the audio out device in mplayer, or kill sound on msn - or sign out. I just kill the sounds cos its annoying enough as it is.

Something else to look for, check what IRQ is assigned to your graphics card and your sound card. If its the same, then you could hit some real nasty problems. If your running gigabit ethernet and playing the file over a network - then check the irq of the network card as well. Those 3 items should ideally be on separate irqs and separate busses. As your on a P4, graphics should be agp, but the other 2 maybe on the same pci bus. You can get this info from whatever win 7 has to replace "device manager".

Edit:
Personally I think XP is your better bet on that machine. But then again, my opinion is that an operating system is there to operate my mahcine, not to annoy me or look prety - looking nice is what a wallaper is for. I can make an old linux install on a petnium 2 look better than MS's "awesome new look". smile.gif Oh and Linux would run about 10X faster than any windows on that P4.

I remember one thing I learn about comp requirements is always double the minimun requirements. So 128mb ram for xp so 256 would be better...although with all the program out there u need at least 1gb so that why xp was running fine with a 1gb. If you see Window 7 requirement it show 1gb of ram so you need at least 2gb of ram to perform better.

As I know the other spec on the mechine is alright ... since I was lurking and taken over the machine for a while. I would say if there is still lag u need 1 more stick of ram.

hi guys, recently my windows 7 are acting weird. My windows explorer shortcut at the bottom left corner is not showing my shortcuts when I right-click it. Can anyone tell me how to fix that? thanks
