Yay or nay? This will work for a variety of purposes (such as general communication or for gaming) , but is only geared towards people who have microphones or are willing to just listen. I would like your opinion.

EDIT:

TeamSpeak server information:

i dunno.. i'd definitely try it out, but i'm unlikely to participate and i'd only listen if it was interesting -- and it's too early to tell, right?

Could be interesting to help strengten the community. A teamSpeak server could allow those interested in games to play and have an even better experience.

It could also be used as a general discussion system for those who want to. But there is MSN and google talk both offering rather good voice communication. So I think it may end up more as a game related service.

I don't really see the point of it personally, maybe because I don't have a microphone. Plus I'm one of those people who remembers/articulates better by writing, so chances are I wouldn't even bother listening. That's why I hate the telephone!

I like the idea, but i don't think it'll be much of a successful thing. How bout trying out a beta, and see how many people are participating??? that way we have a sample of what's gonna come at us.

Speaking of which, If this goes into motion, is there gonna be multiple servers for multiple subjects??? iono, for example, server1: General Chat, server2: Anime Discussion, server3: Games, server 4: Mods and Admins only(?) and so on.

Yea, we can have different channels for different things. If the beta server gets completely filled then we can consider the test a success and open more slots.

I personally prefer Ventrilo for its clarity but I'm leaning towards TeamSpeak 2 for administrative reasons (easier to integrate with... ie, linking your forum accounts with TS2 accounts).

well, i have teamspeak 2 on my computer (thanks bold). I'm still learning about things in it.

And for clarity, i really haven't tried out Ventrilo yet. I think teamspeak would be fine.

Well most people don't use voice communication when playing with strangers. (I guess there is a social analusis that could be done as to why people are shy to be heard on the internet!)

But when playing with people you regularly interact with, voice communication is a great plus and can greatly enhance the fun.

lol... that's true. I was half shy to even talk to bold when we were playing SC. But it turned out ok (although i have no idea what i sound like, because the voices go through my mouth into the ears, not around the mouth and into the ears... Even HE sounds much better than me XD. (and if anybody wants to be afraid first, I can't say the letter "R" correctly)

Hmm, I don't have a problem talking with strangers while playing on the net. I will definately try it out, see if anyone responds. Not sure if my spoken english is so well though but I think it's understandable.

I think it would allow many to develop stronger bonds. I am concerned because many on this site have English as a second language reading and speaking are two different skill sets. We also run into the different time zone issues that were brought up in question of a chat service. Someone could be 12 hours separated from the people they wish to speak to the most.
Yahoo, ICQ, AOL, and Excite instant messengers and other programs already support voice chat as well as web cams. perhaps the site should "endorse" one of these off site communication methods to save server bandwidth or even gain advertisement funds.
With all that said I really would like to hear what many of you sound like and see your faces too. Even tho I'll probably stick to voice chat I'm too ugly to be on T.V.

I don't understand why those should be concerns? Even if you are a full 12 hours different you can stay up late or something one night, and either way there should be overlapping of free time on some level. All those issues are something that individuals need to work out and shouldn't be a reason for not trying out some voice chatting.

Also, about languages. Ever travelled? People figure it out as they go. No biggie, makes it all the more fun!

It strikes me that this is like the sub v. dub controversy, which gives me an idea: what we need is a text-to-speech gizmo which turns our words into the voice of our favourite anime character... in other words a voice avatar. Then our messages would become subtitles for that voice (which would of course be saying our words in pidgin Japanese).

I don't think I am ready to listening to people's voices. And BEWARE!!! I will pick on you if you have a funny accent or if you are a girl so let me know when that day comes cause I'll be ready.

QUOTE (hamasusuke-aniki Posted on Jun 4 2006 @ 08:29 PM )

Just make it a surprise, fayewong. but since you want it, i'll give you my accent.
1) Can't say the letter "R" straight forward; replaces "r" with "arrr"
2) Sometimes deep, sometimes shallow voice.
3) I can transition my voice into another voice (one of my 108 human skills!)

And why are you going to mock the girls?

Because, I like female voices. Picking on them is just the same as flirting.

Unfortunally im a bit microphone shy so ill just lurk around listening

but this is a really nice idea!!!
i guess it would mean people using it require fairly good interenet connections?
