Hello guys ! First, if this question was already asked before, I'm sorry. I bought a PS3 2 days ago and I'd like to know if it is possible to watch some anime on my ps3 ? If yes, do I need to purchase some specific format (like .avi .mkv) or any of it is ok ?

I think it can only play dvd and blu ray format. that mean you must convert mkv into .vob file. i dont know about avi tho

Right since i used to frequently play anime for my PS3 il try answer this.

.mkv it cant play its a 'unsupported file type' so its a no no, you could try as Asakara said and convert to .vob, thats something i havnt tried so i cant say about its usefullness.

Regarding /avi and mp4 its hit or miss really mostly its a hit and will play them no trouble but there are some it wont play due to them being 'unsupported file type' or just generaly not appearing to even be selected. But as a rule you should be okay with .avi, but generaly if you want to watch anime you should stick with your pc/laptop.

For some reason mp4 never works for me on my PS3, even though it should be a supported file. Only avi's have worked thus far. Interesting to know about this .vob file... I'll have to look more into it.

I'll try that. I just hope .vob file doesn't take too much place on a cd...

I agree, it's better to watch on a laptop/pc but as I have a plasma in my chamber, I'd like to see at least once how it makes to watch an anime on a plasma xD

Anyway, thank you to you three !

Duel screen? its what i do while im at Uni lol

I use a cable from my pc too my TV. Think that is one of the best ways too go. Unless you have a TV that supports USB input, then you can also use a memory stick or external HD too watch anime, but then you have a change of codec problems.

I was thinking of burning the animes on a CD-RW. Like that I can take the benefit of the rewrite propriety. I'll try tomorrow with a .avi file and a .mkv file converted to .vob

Unfortunately, I have no cable and no USB input on my TV =/ That's why I want to use a CD-RW
