I'm most likly to go on the Sat, anyone else planning to go or want to do an FTV meet up?

Now that's why I never go to this EXPO, it ALWAYS happens when I have exams. Got an exam on the 28th and 29th but I'll be up north in Lancaster, since that's where my current university is.

What's the London Expo like?

I know I can't go but maybe in about 2 years time.

Oh that sux, I thought you were at Uni in London, did you change?

I like the MCM London, its quite big, has a lot of stands from games co's (with demos) and anime co's (selling or promoting stuff). I go mainly to see all the vendor stands, I tend to find a lot of box sets, CDs and figures that I want (and end up spending way too much lol) They often have other things as well, like movie stands and stuff, as well as food. They have a cosplay event as well and a few stage events, although I don't usually bother with much of that, I normally just use it as a shopping event

lol

Yup, I changed almost 2 years ago, I'm currently doing Economics at Lancaster University.

Shopping event, are they generally over-priced or do you actually see some really good deals? Because at Amazon, I tend to see anime being priced cheaply compared to the prices they're sold in Forbidden Planet. Ah, I wish I could go....just less than month and all my exams will be over.

Oh sorry - I not been paying enough attention here for a while, shows how much time has gone by without realising it tho.

It really depends on the dealer - in the same expo I've been at one place looking at an anime picture/art book and they have said '£30', walk down 2 more stalls and the same one is offered for £15! So you have to shop around a bit. Some are good tho, I once got a rare Saber figure that was sold out long ago, only place that had it and they said a lot of people didnt even know who it was(???), and they didn't want to take it back after the expo. This was well before the re-release of it in July 2011, and mine also included Excalibre's scabard which isnt shown in the AmiAmi pic.

If your around near the end of the day, they will sometimes offer bigger discounts so they have less to transport back after the expo, the danger with that ofcourse is that a lot of stuff has sold out by then. Only some do that tho.

Judging by the entrance fee, there's not really much that is actually given out for free, I know you can play arcades, console games in these kind of expos I believe.....to be honest, the only Expos I've gone to are gaming ones, I went to one last November in Blackpool. I'm a Londoner that hasn't been to an anime expo/convention in London.........ah I suck.

I've never really bought a proper figurine, I do have those random keyrings of anime characters and a few miniature figures of Ichigo of Bleach, which I got about 5 or 6 years ago but I've never bought like a proper figurine and I'm not too sure if I should get one. I probably would one day, when they're CHEAP because I've seen a couple go for quite a bit.

What are the stalls like Maiku? Has there been any surprises for you since attending the Expo?

Yea they don't normally give away much if anything, maybe some leaflets

lol
You can play some games and stuff there and theres a stage with some things on you can watch as well.

I wasn't really into the figures either until recently, now I have quite a few - and need to put the rest on my blog, as its been neglected a bit recently. There never cheap tho, unless fake - and those are not worth it as there often quite poor compared to the original when/if you ever see it.

I'm not at the expo today, at work, will be going there tomorrow, wont be able to stay all day tho as have to prepare for a flight to Gibralter on Sunday for work.

I am sooo tired, been a long day, too hot, too croweded - the trains were totally full and the ac was broken, utter hell of a trip... but I did end up with some stuff...

In total, £160 on everything in the above pictures, I also spent another £5 on 3 issues of MYM magazine as they had a special offer on, I have issue 1 now and the other 2 come in the post later.

Notice the 2 Evangelion 'maid' figures, these are almost certainly fakes - I spent around an hour going to all the stands looking at these, and they were all of horrific quality, damaged boxes, stains and marks - big ones - on the figure, damaged and missing paint, really bad. I managed to find these too which seemed to be the best, I'm hoping the defects wont show from a normal distance and most of the paint issues were on the back. Its mainly Rei that seemed to have the issues, the other was fairly ok.

The only box out of all of them with any kind of 'official' sticker is the Saki maid - pink box, top right of first and third image, therefore I wouldn't be surprised if more of them are fakes as well - they were very cheap, and there wernt any better versions available at the expo. I wouldn't normally get a fake (or a suspected one) but these were so nice I got them regardless - and only paid minimal amounts for them.

The large Rin Tohsaka figure - biggest by far - was interesting, one stall had the last one left, no box as it was a 'display' one, and she was leaning badly onto the next box, when he showed it to me, it fell over no less than 4 times, it would not stand up for long at all. It also looked very poor quality, and had damage to her legs. He said normally £65, due to no box £59. I decided to hold off, and keep looking, 2 stalls further down, I found the one you see in the picture, boxed and taped, looks fine condition, and only £38. £38 for a potential fake (its a bit too cheap) of my fav character in such a big size that still looks great? Sure why not. Normally anything Type Moon has an offical hologram logo sticker on it, and usually a second from 'Good Smile Company' if its genuine, this has neither.

I could get these off ebay, but then you can't see what the exact one your getting is like, this way I can atleast see it for myself and decide. I'll put more pics and details on the blog when I get round to it.

£160, they're quite dear but then again I know how much real ones go for, its just I buy more video games than anime stuff and £160 in VG terms.......I could buy so much.

I'm not too sure about the Eva figurines but I'm soooo jelly for the Rin ones especially the bottom left from the 1st picture.

I do like the look of the Ruka/Luka (I think that's her name....can't remember tbh) Vocaloid figurine....how "fake" is that one and how much did it cost you?

I'm not much of a gamer, I only get the odd one. Now that I've unpacked them all and had a better look at them, the 2 evangelion ones are def fakes, the big Rin one might be but its a hell of a good one, the extra swords fit into the base, she has extra hands and a dagger to hold and the build quality is quite good. Paint is a bit glossy, couple places it doesn't match but you have to look close to see it.

I think all the others are actually real, the quality is perfect, material and paint colour and detail etc. The Luka one was a Sega game prize one, was 34, I got it a bit less as I bought 2 others at same time. It looks really good.

I added some slightly bigger pictures on the blog here, the article content is just an edited and slightly extend version of the my posts above. Also unpinned the topic as is now past the event, but anyone wanting to meet up for something else let me know, I'm looking to try to go to more events in future.
