Ok, a little late to the party on this one "Gakkou Gurashi" -(School-Live!), but very impressive given the mashup or juxtiposition of the usual moe girl group SoL in high school with zombie apocalypse. I just finished the 12 ep series... the craftsmanship of the production crew here is really good... rather exceptional... I didn't think much of it originally, I like SoL's but the whole moe thing isn't my style... came across this in a search for post-apocalypic or distopia themed animes... read the Wikipedia writeup and was running down the list... the first episode seemed to start off with the usual moe stuff that I was getting a little tired of until the ending shocker.... there were odd background stuff going in the anime, but I wrote that off to a small budget... as I don't usually watch zombie stuff either, so some of those were most likely hints and not an attempt to save money on production costs.
biggrin.gif

The zombie stuff is pretty much all background in the beginning, for a reason... as our MC has a problem dealing with the reality of her situation... PTSD like delusional moe world of 'before'... really adds an extra dimension to this SoL.... and that zombie background starts invading the foreground 'fantasy' more and more in each episode. I'm reading the blog on animesuki now... and there are some good hints others have pointed out along the way that are subtle and interesting, as others have more interest in these types of animes, so they can see some of this stuff coming, especially those that read the manga it's based on... which is ongoing, so I would guess another season when enough material/chapters/volumes are ready... the wikipedia entry has already pointed those chapters out... the new characters/settings etc.

So many of these animes have character drawings that look and sound so much alike that I can't tell the difference or remember them.... but the way the mangaka and the others that cowrote/directed/produced this one have really worked the storyline in a rather unique manner given the limitations/expectations of the format of SoL/zombie attack... it's just very well made, edited, the use of our MC illusional/delusional world vs the real one, how they are mixed in the artwork etc... very well done.... with minimal fan service... as it seems that is a given in Nippon.
rolleyes.gif
but it is easily excused here because of our MC's issues... and the groups situation vis a vis their zombie 'friends'.... I may have to take a look at the manga, which I hardly ever do... just to catch up their storyline, which has continued since this anime was made last summer.

Highly recommended... and I never gave it a thought beforehand, as the poster looked so typical and the concept so
rolleyes.gif
It's a rather eclectic mix, very well done.... rather impressive.

Is it already that time of the season again?

Alright let me see...
Demi-chan wa Kataritai. (I followed the manga, it is pretty much boring and standard students fall for the teacher who helps them as who they are. Maybe the Anime will be a little bit more interesting).

Kobayashi-san Chi no Maidragon. (By the wonderful, hilarious Cool Kyoushinja, who has made a numerous amount of series that have been adapted to anime... Why not Ojojojo T.T)

Little Witch Academia!! ... +TV (Why the hell not)

Tempting, but not sure:
Seiren (It says Original... Hah! Let's be honest, when was the last time any of us has seen anything original?) As In: Not based on anything, has memorable lines, is not predictable, does not have anything that may be considered by someone else as a cliche or twists that were obvious from start xD

Last and finally: Masamune-kun no Revenge. (Now... I have followed its manga since December 2012 and stopped begin of this year. Why? It was predictable and it threw unnecessary events/twists that were of not even a single use! Honestly was only created to Postpone the inevitable ).

- OVAs / films from high to low preference: 1. Fate/Grand order -First Order- (!)
2. Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2202: Ai no senshi tachi (a remake sequel of 2199) \o/
3. Koutetsujou no Kabaneri Soushuuhen Part 1 & 2 (now films but when S2?) :3
4. Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale (Still I'm looking forward S3 / Alicization) ~_~
5. Kizumonogatari III: Reiketsu-hen (time to end it all after that trilogy finale) -.-
6. Lupin the IIIrd: Chikemuri no Ishikawa Goemon (so zenigata's film as last?) :v
7. Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka! (╯°Д°)╯︵┻━┻
8. Digimon Adventure Tri. 4: Soushitsu (At Digiworld in the name of nostalgia) ;/
9. Cyborg 009: Call of Justice Parts 2 & 3 (I rather prefer more Vs. Devilman)-_-

Nice to see Rakugo is back, but a 2nd season of Rewrite? didn't they end that? or is this like Groundhog Day or Matrix2? a seemingly endless loop of creation or what?

Ok, looked up the WIkipedia entry... it was planned as a 24 ep anime... so this continues the story in some fashion... based on the Key visual novel.... so that wasn't the end... only the halfway mark of the story.... it was getting better by the end, so why not?

Version 2.0 (I expected Tales of Zestiria S2 but an 0verlord movie? :0 can't wait)

touché! it's a term for projects starting as anime (no manga source, game etc):p

Version 3.0 (added Koro-sensei Quest! ONAs and Hibike! Euphonium 2 specials)

i'll give S2 a chance as guilty pleasure, hopefully it ends less disappointing

A new season of Rewrite could be interesting, as it was the main ingredient in the plot of S1 anyway.... everything repeats over and over until....? Same is said to be the case with our planet, it's all a school for greater self-conscious awareness.. thus the religious/philosophical traditions within most Eastern 'religions'... Hinduism... updated and cleaned up with the Buddha's teachings, and in the Punjab with the Sikhs... same with Taoism in China... in the West, you have to go to esoteric teachings in Chistianity... like M and G... etc. THe cosmos as school and there are set 'terms' to life here.... etc... cyclical time.. . versus the linear version we have been taught here in the West.... to better control the herd/sheeple. You can find a lot of this stuff touched upon in anime, but barely, mostly as a background worldview situation, as it seems most of the creators don't know the traditions themselves... just a vehicle for their stories.

A redo or S2 could be like the 'rewrite' in Narnia, at least in that one book about how all the critters etc went into some 'cave'? led by the Lion as creator... and the world started all over again... like the symbolism of Noah's Ark etc etc...
Could be interesting if the writers are up to the task... even if they just show the small changes... which can be along the lines of the 'butterfly affect'... 'thousand monkey effect'... etc... leading to basic critical point analysis.... all depends upon those small choices in our individual and collective lives.

Otherwise, Urara Meirochou looks to have potential.. base only the summary of course... for an SoL.... Masamune-kun no Revenge could be worth a look for the HS genre... At this point, I think I've watched enough anime to recognize the same plotlines each season.... Ah, S2 of Rakugo is something to look forward to.... I see S2 of Reikenzan... I wonder what S1 was like? So many of the same storylines each season... so it's usually a question of whether it's done well or not, with any different twists or not.... no wonder GITS keeps getting rebooted! Hmmm... Little Witch Academia? I keep hoping for these to take an more esoteric/occult trajectory but they never do.... Yowamushi Pedal.... sort of reminds me of that classic tv movie on the 'Italian' kid who rode his bike in that competition against the college kids... found it: Breaking Away... 1979.. nice little movie.

Onihei Hankachou could be alright... seinen anyway for that subject matter is a good sign...ACCA 13? Not sure what that is really, seinen... kingdom divided into 13 'states', sounds familiar, no? .... Kemono Friends could be worth a quick cute look... Piace: Watashi no Italian? hey, it's Italian, what else can I say?.... Kyoto Animation has Kobayashi-san for more cuteness overload...

Initial look says Rakugo.... Rewrite on the side... otherwise, nothing stands out in the summaries.

1. Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon
2. Masamune no Revenge
3. Demi-chan wa Kataritai
4. Fuuka
5. Seiren
Ongoing: 1. Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! 2
2. Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu: Sukeroku Futatabi-hen
3. Little Witch Academia (reboot)
4. Koro-sensei Quest (spin-off)
5. Sangatsu no Lion (2nd cour)
6. Tales of Zestiria the X (S2)
7. Chain Chronicle: Haecceitas no Hikari (OVA sequel movies on TV)
8. Rewrite 2nd Season: Moon-hen / Terra-hen
9. Dragon Ball Super (fillers)
10. Ao no Exorcist: Kyoto Fujouou-hen
*Guilty pleasure: Reikenzan: Eichi e no Shikaku (no english subs yet)-_-

I have a list of about 20 older ones I'm still working my way through, not that I'll actually watch them all, but I really have a hard time watching one ep a week... and the entire industry is heading in this direction, the question is how to market it.... here in the States, the problem with mainstream media is (outside of the usual fake news/state media/propaganda press) the packaging of channels... be it cable or satellite... now going to internet but mostly still packaged as a group of channels, though there a few starting to go with ala carte... programs, and not just channels, which is still not happening yet... and the whole industry, controlled by 5-6 corporations (owned by the usual banking groups that run the govt) that don't want things to change... same in the 50s... the old media is dying out, like it or not... and they are having a hard time keeping people watching their usual fare... the ratings are so low for the network channels it's astounding they stay in business, but that's what govt funding is for... direct or indirect, same in most countries.

So, I'll probably wait till half way through the season... ReWrite, Rakugo, I may check out your Fuuka if the reviews are ok...
I have reached the point to understand that these series have the source material problem, if they are manga dependent, they have to wait for an ongoing manga to complete enough for a new season... not good for business! Why not just wait year before they start? What's the rush to animate a manga whose story isn't near completion? Another industry problem, yet, from what others say, some mangas never see any animation... I remember this problem with the Harry Potter series... but that had a bad screen writer from the start.

Guess that the others will await positive reviews... it seems the good stuff is noticed right away from the starving for excellence type viewers. ;)

Then now that it's middle February I guess the time is right, in case you wanna try a romcom by arcs i suggest Seiren... not just because today is valentine's -.- if you don't like to wait, Chain Chronicle will end this month (3rd film ep.9-12):)

Just saw that this is an ongoing manga... up to 31? chps so far.. so I wonder what chapter that stopped the anime at? It's #3 in the manga weekly rankings.. i just saw.... rather big difference after the first 4 or 5... doubles up or halves down.... so they should have another anime season once they have enough chapters, right? I saw that JAXA still has dreams of going to the moon, but they've had that budget limited dream for a few years now, a decade perhaps? At least they have dreams, we can't even have those anymore, just NASA funded 'private' space companies exploiting the budget as usual.

This is the only link that came up when I typed in Gakkou Gurashi... the manga restarted... and it seems that a live action film in in the works.... wonder how far 'ahead' it would take them? To the pharma company? that is what the new chapter is just starting to have them do... leave the university they stopped last at... which I don't think the anime even arrived at? don't remember.

The manga is on ch 74 online... they are back to the school.... the pieces of the puzzle are coming together and look to end soon.... but the translator said it's going on another break.... oh well.
